Thanks for the offer Steve - I see you're just down the road from me so may just take you up on that.
I have not dismantled the valeo so dont yet know what the problem is

I had my bosch starter overhauled yesterday and put it back in and rode for 100ks with all well. When I went to start this morning it just made a clicking noise with no turnover or drop in brightness of lights. Volt meter showing full charge so put it in gear and rocked it back and forward with clutch out, hit starter and away she fired. Did another 4 starts during the day and all started straight up as usual. what was going on and anything to be worried about. By the way it didn't get new brushes as they didn't have any on hand and the mech reckons they had plenty of miles left. By the way it's an r100 eng

Hi

A bit puzzled here. If it is making a clicking noise the starter relay is operating, but the solenoid is not. (The solenoid makes a big "thunk").

If the solenoid is not operating the starter is not turning and is not engaged with the teeth on the flywheel so rocking the bike wont effect it.

It sounds like you have a bad connection and this could happen again at any time. I would strip and clean every connection related to the starting circuit.

bosch

Hi
the Bosch I recently fitted sometimes does this but always works after a couple of attempts. As Kenny and Lurcher have said earlier in the thread they tend to be a bit slow.
