Hi

Can anyone help? I have an intermittent starting problem. Sometimes the bike goes through its checks when ignition is switched on, then when starter is pressed nothing happens. It makes no difference if the side stand is up or down. The bike is in neutral and the gear indicator work fine. It can take me ten minutes to start, switching on and off to try again. Any ideas?

Cheers

It could be the relay right under the ignition switch. It's probably called something else but it's easy enough to find and change. Mine just wore a couple of years ago and I had the same symtoms as yours and is an easy fix as it's a big block which you just swap for a new one.

Thanks for that Sarge. Will check out tomorrow

Another thing to check is the wiring around the headstock Mine had a partly broken wire under one of the cable ties causing intermittent faulty starting

Hold the starter button down and tap the starter motor with your heel. Small amounts of corrosion in the loom power cable to the starter motor can cause this. I've had this issue with my 2010 GSA. Bentham are still trying to work out what to do about it without replacing the entire loom.
It only seems to be a problem after the bikes been wet. A liberal coating of WD40 around the starter motor area seems to keep the problem at bay.

It sounds more like another fault as he has not said the ignition isn't coming on via the key, just that the starter button isn't working,

Check the condition of the wiring at the starter motor relay under the tool roll holder. The terminals corrode away and give the symptoms you have.

Hi all

Thanks for the help. I have cleaned up all the connections starting at the switch under the button, then moving on to any to do with starting and so far seems to have worked. It has been starting every time.

Cheers
