Interphone F4

IMHO, for something like this, it pays to have a 'relationship' with a UK dealer. My F4s, for instance, were experiencing pairing issues with my Zumo 660. Through this forum I was able to learn that the issue was one of firmware that was resolvable via the UK importers, who would only receive the units back for upgrade via my UK vendor (Travel-Dri Plus :thumb2).

I may in the future need another 'upgrade' in which case I'm covered. If you buy direct from the states, I don't know what your status will be :nenau

So I did as suggested. The iPhone pairs to the Zumo and all phone functions are fine. I can't do anything with my iPod though? I then pair the zumo to the F4 and the zumo and phone functions are good but again i cannot play my iPod through the F4.

I can pair the iPhone to the F4 on its own and it works great including the iPod but as soon as the zumo is paired to the F4 the iPod connection to the F4 is lost. The phone still functions though??

This seems odd. Anyone else having difficulty listening to their music from their iPhone in this way?

Hi Johnmac
the ipod wont work through the F4 you need to buy a bluetooth adaptor to fit onto the bottom of your iphone, look on the F4 Website they are around £50:thumb2

There is no firmware update possible to the F4 (according to a support question I posed to Blueant, the manufacturer). New versions seem to be sorted.

Quote, "The Interphone F4 is not firmware upgradeable.

It should have the latest version already installed during production.

Ensure that your Garmin is able to connect to a handsfree/headset Bluetooth profile, not just to a mobile phone."

I paid £118 delivered for a single F4 including Customs sniper tax from www.mrhit.com

I'm not even going to try and highlight the contradictions in that post.

Trust me, upgrades are possible and HAVE been done to sets bought earlier in the UK. The current batch of F4s on offer may well have the 'latest' (Un-upgradable?) firmware but what if future tech you want to pair, such as your next mobile phone, is significantly different and needs F4 tinkering?

What if one of Garmin's endless firmware upgrades to the Zumo causes a compatibility issue. It wouldn't be the first time

F4's recieved

Just recieved a pair of F4's from ebay italy (nellorsv). Paired with my Iphone 3gs first time. A2DP (voice control and (stereo) music) works just fine:

(not my vid but does show it working!!)

Will have to wait to try bike to bike, but looking forward to that.Roll on the summer....

It looks like a really well made bit of kit and comes with headsets/ mikes for both open and full face helmets -very impressive.

The latest (current) s/w build is R116, and there is a sticker on the unit to indicate the version. New units should have this but its easy enough to ask any seller..

I don't need a 'relationship' with the seller (there didn't seem to be anyone local anyway!!). If it needs a firmare upgrade, I could post it back to Italy -its only a small item ffs.... Given I've saved £120 on the UK price, I'm prepared to take a chance!!

Hi, Thanks for the input BUT......it does work as its an iPhone!!! he issue i was having was pairing my Zumo 660 as sat nav, my iPhone as a phone & an audio player at the same time. The sat nav & phone work fine together but i can't then use the iPod functionality of the iPhone. I can however listen to the iPod of my iPhone if i leave the zumo switched off.

I ahve transferred a lot of mp3 music to the zumo now and all works great.

Thanks again for the input, it was probabl;y my poor explanation of iPhone/ iPod which caused the confusion in the first plave. :)

pairing problems

I just bot a twin set interphone 4 to use as intercom, but hopefully also for other things. Installing wasn't too much hassle, but now getting everything to work. I have BMW satnav IV, which pairs fine. But then I can't use the intercom any longer. Ideally I would have music (from satnav, as I assume pairing 3 items will definitely be too much) and intercom at operable at the same time. BMW satnav unfort offers only 450kb space for mp3s

Also everytime I switch the units off and back on I need to pair the two interphone units before they work again as intercom. Is this normal?!

I found the instructions with the Interphone minimal as you have gathered by my comments.

Other then that, once intercom is working can speak up to 70 mph (both with earplugs in). Above that the windnoise becomes too much.

I have just fitted the F4 to my BMW System 6 helmet

I'd be interested to know if you have any problems with the cheek pads etc on your System 6 with the speakers & boom fitted.

I have an early System 6 that hasn't taken at all well to having an Autocom headset fitted. I've just acquired a pair of F4 units & will be fitting soon.

OK, just thought I would update this 'for the record'

I've been using my f4 most days for work, and for weekend jaunts with mrs Z.
No probs with sound quality or using the butons, but have just had to order another universal mike/headst kit as the one I'm using has some break in the wire...the full face kits seam to do better that the boom mike kits -maybe its just me......?? On checking the box, I've now broken both mike sets that come with the kit, so either I'm a bit climsy (possible) or maybe some of the wiring is a bit suss.....
At £30 a pop, its still cheaper that taking a F5 or jumping ship to Sena/ Midland....

apart from that- still very happy with the kit -compact, easy to use, and has worked flawlessly (apart from the flaw described above, obviously!!
hey ho...
