Interphone F4

Got a 'pair' - rider to passenger, fits well on an Arai X3 thing and is smaller than other brands I've seen. Bluetooths no probs (if you read the instructions on the card...). Battery life is probably about 6-7 hours genuine. No probs hearing up to 70-80, plenty volume so ideal in town or touring about.
The connections into the unit to charge need 'care'. If someone is ham-fisted there could be issues.
I had probs getting the Zumo 660 to bluetooth to it but left it as I could hear the voice directions ok as the Zumo is high up behind the windscreen on my GSA.
I haven't bothered playing with that issue. I should.

Get into a routine in that the helmets go on shelf or table at the evening and charge them if on holiday. The biggest problem is that the low battery 'bleep' goes on and on and on. Usually on an autobahn when making 'progress' so you have to press and hold to turn the thing off. But if I'd charged it the night before it'd have been fine.

They are an Italian 'brand' but made in China or Taiwan. I got mine on eBay off a French shop that sells that sort of kit + GPS etc. Check out international sellers on eBay. i dunno if they still have some but it was about £40 less than UK and here in 3 days.
If I needed another set I probably would buy them as they seem smaller on the outside of the helmet than Scala etc.
I cut away foam at the ear/cheek pieces in the Arai to recess them. The Arai has washable covers, other helmets may be a PITA to fit them into.
If you need, PM me and I'll take a picture or three.

I should attempt the BT connection with the Zumo but I suspect the issue was/is at the Garmin end of that as the iPhone worked no probs. Scary, making calls from the bike...

I've got the Interfone F4 fitted in my Shoei Qwest and it works a treat. The speakers fit nicely into the recesses and provide a super sound. The audio quality from my Garmin or i-Pod is excellent. Music quality and volume are super at speeds up to 140kph. Although this is my first such unit, I believe it is definitely worth a try.

One negative I have found is that the coupling between the unit and the bracket that is fixed to the helmet is easily dislodged if you put upward pressure on the unit. A minor issue once you are aware of the problem.

I recently bought one & fitted it to my System 6 with the adhesive pad, which works well.
Be aware that if using it with a Zumo 660 the F4 needs to have the R616 firmware upgrade (you can identify this from a small sticker on the back of the unit). Mine was an earlier model & I had to return it to get the update loaded - no problem & it was done and returned to me immediately.
Dead easy to bluetooth to the Zumo, and sound quality for GPS instructions & phone calls is excellent even with earplugs, but for some reason sound volume for music through the zumo is almost inaudible - no problem for me as I do not intend to listen to music whilst riding (or phone calls either) but i don't understand why the music volume should be so poor (I have it set at 100%).

Sorry, should have explained better.
When I received my F4 and tried it out, the voice instructions from the Zumo were "clipped" and i missed the first couple of words on each message.
I contacted the importers (Motohaus Powersports) who were extremely helpful and knew straight away what the issue was and fixed it for me by loading the update.
I think my unit must have been old stock and the current ones should be fine.

Thanks a lot guys for all the feed back. I have contacted the F4 and Sena SMH10 manufacturers to find out if these items fit "straight from the box" onto a BMW System 5.
Waiting reply. Has anyone tried it?

The units clip onto a plate which either is clamped to the helmet or uses a whole area slf adhesive pad. That's what I used.
But you need to have some involvement in fitting the component parts into your helmet.

@ stroller - mine says R108 on the sticker. Better email them I guess...

Hmm...

Mine says R111, another email on its way. Must say, bike to bike is fab. Zumo 660 is great for music but the voice prompts are clipped and garbled, sounds like you've hit the nail on the head there :thumb

Thanks!

Cogs, that's strange, mine is poor for music with very low volume. Any suggestions how I can improve mine.

Cheers,
Mike

Sorry Mike, i'm not too up on the Interphone technology. i note that there are several firmware versions out there though, maybe an upgrade might help?

Still waiting to hear about mine...

IPhone 3GS & Garmin Zumo 660

Hi,

I have just fitted the F4 to my BMW System 6 helmet and i have managed to pair it to my BMW Navigator IV (Garmin Zumo 660). I also manged to pair it to my iPhone but not both togehter at the same time.

With my iPhone paired, when i turn on the GPS it drops the bluetooth connection to the iPhone.

Is there any way of having both the GPS and the iPhone paired at the same time with the F4?

Try pairing the phone to the Zumo first then the Zumo to the interphone. Best to delete the pairings you have made so far before you do this.

So I did as suggested. The iPhone pairs to the Zumo and all phone functions are fine. I can't do anything with my iPod though? I then pair the zumo to the F4 and the zumo and phone functions are good but again i cannot play my iPod through the F4.

I can pair the iPhone to the F4 on its own and it works great including the iPod but as soon as the zumo is paired to the F4 the iPod connection to the F4 is lost. The phone still functions though??

This seems odd. Anyone else having difficulty listening to their music from their iPhone in this way?

I think for your music to work you need to pair your iPhone as a headset which doing it directly to the F4 it is. However, pairing it with the Zumo pairs it as a phone only.

I don't think there's a way around this.

Why don't you duplicate your music on the Zumo and play from there, you'd have more control over your music (i.e. stop start and track selection) without having to delve into your tank bag or pocket then as well. Sure it's not as convenient as having all your music in one place.

i'm in need of a replacement intercomm setup as my scala has died again:blast so i've been reading around the forum and i'm probably going to go for the interphone f3 which looks to fit what i'm looking for.

but, where from? i see some guys have bought from abroad and i can see why as you can get an f3 for £133 from italy whereas it's £199 from the uk.
my fear is, if i get it from abroad and i have a warranty issue how difficult would it be to get it sorted?

yeah i know what the simple answer is, if i'm worried about buying from abroad then dont, just pay the asking price and get more peace of mind but, 66 quid is a big difference, so :nenau
