Intro and a big ask!

Thought I'd better say hi really. I've only recently come into ownership of my 2003 blue 'n' white and have spent a fair chunk of time and money getting to know it and bolting bits on.
I live in Chippenham, and spend a fair amount of my time on and under the Mendips. (Added a set of Roger's Ardcases so I can fit all me caving gear on the bike!) Hopefully, I'll get chance to join in a rideout or two soon.

Now, on to the 'big ask'. My bike's coming up to it's 48k service. The biggie! Generally speaking, I'm not a COMPLETE disaster with the spanners, in the sense that I can muddle my way through an oil change okay. I even took the tank off last week and didn't set anything on fire. That said, talk of valve clearances and throttle bodies scares me a bit, so I was wondering if anyone might be willing to hold my hand and offer a bit of wisdom?
Willing to pay in beer and as much pathetic gratitude as you can handle!

Welcome aboard fella.
You must be crazy to do that caving malarkey mate. That scares the hell out of me.
I can jump out of a perfectly good aircraft no problem, but caves...no way.

I've done lots of work on cars in the past, and on my Pegaso 650. However, as my 1200 is under warranty I've not touched a thing so far. I'd be happy to come along and lend a hand and another head (I also have a Haynes manual somewhere, but would need to check whether it covers your model).

sorry cannot offer any experience of other than the 650 single but have you thought about the small bike place on Bumbers Farm? They seem to know what they are doing.

Am intersted to hear more about your caving, I used to do a bit many years ago and have been thinking about another go. Used to go down near Manchester and would love to work out where they were.

Welcome to the site.

I'm also around Chippenham, ok withe spanners but prefer to leave to experts. Take mine into BVM at Stroud - Mike always seems to do a great job and bike feels brand new after its been in there.

I'll keep an eye out for you and give you a nod if I see you.

Greger, I do most of my caving on the Mendip hills in Somerset. That said, I travel around quite a bit and have caved in N.Ireland, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, South Wales and even Spain. (Going back in a couple of weeks actually, sadly not on the GS.)
If you were caving not far from Manchester, chances are you'll have either been in the Yorkshire dales, or the Peak district. You're very well placed up there, between two extremely rich and varied caving areas. Yorkshire probably offering the best caving in the British Isles.
If you're ever down South, and fancy a little taster, give me a shout. I can sort you out with a bit of gear and we could do a trip somewhere.
