Just a quick into to say hi, long time lurker first time poster.

Has my R1150gs for about a month and all going fantastic.

All working fine but noticed one of those weird wiring modifications that you sometimes discover with old bikes.

It seems a previous owner has done a bit of chopping and changing.

There is a positive feed wire (an extra wire) from the battery that seems to connect into the loom where the rear brake switch wire joins the main loom.

Had a quick look all seems to be for no reason, I will investigate fully when I have an hour spare but wondered if anyone has seen this before. I have come across heated plugs for kit wired in but this looks odd to me.

Any help or crazy opinions are a plus, many thanks AJ

Presumably it's powering something or was? Are there any electrical accessories on the bike?

Sorry. Just more questions!

Seems plausible, there is nothing none standard on the bike at all, Ian used to the usual butchery with alarms fitted etc, seems an odd one to be fitted back there! Unless it was for a heated vest or something.
Just posted to see if anyone had something similar.
The one I can't get my head around is why splice into the loom presumably for a live? But it's connected to battery +!!

Ehm I'd be getting a fuse on that before tooo long

!!!!
Seems an odd one as there is nothing else not standard in there, I will most likely take it off bit by bit starting with the battery + and see what stops working.

Disconnect the wire from the battery and see if brake/rear light still works .

Sorry for the delay on this, had a peek today where it connected into the loom.
It was tapping into the connector that supplies the 12v to the rear brake light switch, bit weird though that it was also connected to the live connection direct to the battery?

I wonder if it's to do with my latest malfunction? I wired up my sat nav to what I thought is a switched live....the back brake light, found out it works apart from every time I brake with either the front or back brake it turns the sat nav off......it then comes back on again when I release the brake, I suppose an easy way to by pass it is to wire it direct to the positive on the battery?

So you've wired it to the switched brake light feed NOT the tail light feed...

I'd suggest a wiring diagram for your model is needed to find the correct wire to supply your satnav and also shed some light on what the 'other' wire is doing
