I installed iO5 on my iPhone 4 and all is well except it also installed a second identical email account with my provider; i.e @ntlworld.com which I have set to inactive along with an iCloud account and an old Exchange account. Why did it do this? Also when I synched with my laptop and email it then gave me all the deleted emails which I have had to delete yet again on my iPhone.
So the big question for a relative numby is what is the benefit to me setting up and using iCloud? I use my phone for business and pleasure and use email, store my music, use Notes, Calendar, Photos and generally have a number of Apps that I make use of as well as the usual activites such as web browsing and listening to radio which only works on Wi Fi with Tunein.

i don't know what caused your problems, but the main point of iCloud AFAICT is synchronisation of data between multiple devices. contacts, bookmarks, calendar, iWork docs and the Find My Phone feature.

eventually, any music you have in iTunes locally will also be available from, and backed up in iCloud too.

So will I actually benefit from using iCloud, just failing to see how it will help me realyy. Perhaps I'm just not understanding the real benefit. Doesn't the Find My Phone feature rely on having a Mac rather than a Pc?

i think it works via iCloud website, so win or mac makes no difference. it also works on iphone/pads.

as regards other benefits: i enter a new contact on my iPad. it then instantly syncs the new info to my desktop and laptop, and iPad + the missus iPad. create a bookmark in safari on the desktop, and it transfers to the other devices too. ditto calendar entries.
we find such things very handy, in fact it's getting more taken for granted. i've been using the previous and similar MobileMe service since 2008.

admittedly that's all apple gear, but it may well work on pcs too. dunno, i do have one but rarely ever switch it on.

such things may be of use to you, but only you can decide that. at least it's free now :)
