I'm going to the USA at the end of May and want to back up my photos whilst I'm there just in case I have an issue with the SD cards or the camera is stolen etc.

I know the iPad camera adapter allows you to upload photos, but are they stored at full size and. most importantly, can I download them to my laptop when I get home?

Plan B is to take my 640GB external hard drive and find an internet cafe to back the photos up using a PC.

As long as the CCK 'sees' the the photos then they can be imported, and are at full size. Yes you can download them to a laptop, but it can be a bit of a potch, so unless the SD cards aren't available you may prefer to transfer the files directly from the card to the laptop. :thumb2

I'm just taking a belt and braces approach. I'll have several SDHC cards with me, plus two cameras (EOS550d and G12), but I just want to make back-up copies just in case. The laptop takes up too much space on the bike, so we're only taking the iPad.

if you sign up for iCloud, the pics (up to 1000 anyway) will also be in the cloud and available on any other device that has iCloud access.

Elvie also carries a couple of canons. She has a G12 and a 7d. Both of the cameras produce both images and video that import and play on my iPad 2. Can't see that the 550d would be a problem. :thumb2
