I have some bonus points at work to use up and the only thing of remote interest to me is the Hewlett Packard IPAQ pocket pc (H2210). There is an IPAQ naigation system option for this handheld pc which seems quite good but would appreciate some feedback from anyone who may have used such a device. It mentions routes for UK and Ireland but nothing about the remainder of Europe or indeed other continents which I would eventually like to venture to! Are mounts/waterproofing kits available ? Are they rugged/reliable? Am I going to waste my time/bonus points!!!!!!!!! Any information would be most appreciated.:thumb

The best navigator system for a PDA is Tom Tom 2, in my opinion. I'm running it on a very low powered NEC PDA (300mhz processor) and it works fine. If you've got a half decent amount of storage on an Ipaq, you'll get at least the whole of the UK on there (about 95mb), and it comes with the whole of Europe on the CD which you can load up onto your iPaq as complete countries, or just segments. Very good navigating software, goes right down to street level in all countries, has good POI's, you can add to them, put in speed camera databases, and additional POI's of your choosing. Been running mine now for 6 months or so and it's brilliant, never need a paper map again.

Check out their website:

For mounting go to the GPS warehouse, loads of different kit there, look under accessories. I've had no problem with mine, you can waterproof them easily enough with a ziplock type freezer bag, and they're don't appear to mind being dropped once or twice!!!

I have an Ipaq I aquired through work and had considered a gps add on. But Ive found it doesnt like working when cold , has to be warmed up before the screen responds to the pointer.
This wouldnt have worked very well on a bike, nor is the pionter glove friendly
I bought a garmin GPS76s instead , works a treat, though it doesn't autoroute it got me round spain easily enough.

Waterproof Case

Waterproofness is an issue but, Otter Box makes a very rugged, waterproof case for iQue's, iPaq's, etc. It is a brick but, it supports RAM mounts for mounting on the bike and is 100% waterproof...Here's the link to the box: Otter Box Armor 3600 ; Mounting: http://www.otterbox.com/product.cfm?product=123&code=NA ...Hope that helps if you get the iPaq...I just ordered an iQue myself and will be mounting it on the GS with this box...

I used to work for HP .
IPAQ's are having some horrendous reliability problems. Some of my ex- colleagues have just given up with them because of so many problems....they languish in their desk drawers unused and unusable !!! Buyer beware.

iQue and Otterbox, iPaq rejected

Todd

Does the iQue fit in an Otter 3600 with the aeial flipped up or do you need a seperate aerial.

Fyi, I have recently bought and am returning an iPaq 2210 / CoPilot Bluetooth package and intend yo replace with an iQue. reason? HP's Bluetooth implementation on the iPaq is so unreliable it is unusable, and CoPilot doesn't do everything it says on the tin either.
