What's the differences?

I need a new phone now:blast:augie .....after my Nokia bit the dust, literally

Beauty of a 3G is that (as I understand it) the SIM cards will work in wither the Iphone or the more rugged Nokia and I still fancy a Nokia to use outdoors and out in the countryside, as backup

Swapping SIM cards isn't an option on Iphone 4, I understand

How rugged are Iphones, generally? (apart from being run over:blast)

I thought you could get a coverter to put your 'micro SIM' in that allows you to use it in other phones - I'm sure somebody will confirm.

Amanda has a 3GS and I have a 4 - the 4 is a bit quicker, has a better camera and I've more memory but other than that there isn't a world of difference between them.

Re how tough are they, well, I now use my iPhone as my main colour camera (using some very nice creative Apps) and as such it goes everywhere with me. It survived 2 weeks of Enduro Himalaya recently sat in the outside pocket of my jacket and defo does not lead a pampered life - only protection is a rubber 'skin'.

Oh, and Amanda drove over hers the other day and it survived :D

I love mine & can't reccomend them highly enough :)

You can buy a whole range of cases with varying levels of protection, up to and including an Otterbox if you must. Adventurebike Warehouse do quite clever bags that still allow you to use the touck screen but protect from water and dust.

The iPhone 3 is now out of date and Apple move on pretty fast with what they do / don't support. I wouldn't bother if I were you :thumb

Thanks Mutley:thumb

get an iphone 4 and a rubber sleeve.

if anything goes wrong you just take it back to apple and they give you a new one.

You're paying for warranty in the price - just like with a bm. :mmmm

my missus dropped hers in a bucket of water and it stopped - so we dried it out - took it back and were given a new one there and then.

and I covered mine in a Zagg InvisbleShiled full body cover (its made up of a kit to cover the phone) and they have a lifetime warranty as well. Damaged my screen invisible shield and they are sending out a new one free of charge ($3.99 P&P though) Of course their was no damage to my screen itself. Great protection from scratches and even drops.

My Tesco iPhone4 is now a year old and finished its contract (which was the cheapest available) so now have it unlocked and on a Sim only, rolling monthly contract, for £11.25 a month 300mins, 3,000 texts & 1Gb data.

OTM is right, you can get a converter to make a micro sim work in a standard slot.

Whatever you do, don't buy a 3G, they are woefully slow compared to a 3GS or 4.

Iphone 4 being delivered tomorrow:D

Managed to get the LCD screen fixed yesterday on my Nokia for £20..............bargain, so will keep it for a spare/trailriding:blast

I've taken my iphone 4 snowboarding, trail riding, mountain biking etc. And it's still in one piece.

You'll not regret it JB. Now you'll have to get a Bowers & Wilkins zepplin dock for it as well

Sim cards

I always buy a phone outright & just stick my sim card in to it.
Bought an I phone 4 with micro sim card slot. Took my old sim card & put it in a Sim card puncher for Ebay. Punched out centre of sim card & put it in my I phone 6 months ago. Works perfectly. I have the same sim card for the last 11 years.
If I wish to put it back in previous phone, I just set the punched out bit back into the bit it was punched out of, & put the lot into standard phone.

If your luck is anything like mine i-phone 5 will be announced just as you're getting to grips with your i-phone 4 :blast

Welcome to the World of the iPhone JB:JB

Great piece o' kit :thumb

:beerjug:

Remember to get a screen protector and a good case :thumb2

Zagg InvisibleShield full body protection kit, expensive, but top quality and lifetime guarantee. I got mine off 7dayshop for £11.99, I think its RRP is £19.99. For a case I use an Apple Bumper (free) or a silicon iPhone 4 case from my local Pound shop.

zagg + bumper here.

apple used to give the bumpers away back during "antennagate". now everyone's forgotten all about that, they're £29.99 again
