iPhone 4 Spotlight search

I have been using an iPhone 4 for some while which has a very irritating issue around the Spotlight search function. Clicking on the round button (can't remember what it's called) brings up the search screen but when I enter the search criteri e.g Darren, nothing comes up. However if I open Contacts and search then "Darren" is found. If i've found the item I want in Contact search then go back to Spotlight it finds the person?

I've checked Spotlight settings and they are all ticked. I thought this used to work for me but now I'm not so sure? Any suggestions and yes i've looked at the Apple site but can't get an answer that makes sense.

Just tried it on my iPhone 4S and it works fine. I thought you'd be pleased for me......

Just checked it, (iphone 4), and mine works exactly as it should, tho have to say I've never used the spotlight search before, so I've not exactly missed it, but it works fine!

It's called the Home button

Settings>General>Spotlight Search> check contacts

Yes done all of that, it seems to be intermittent in operation. Perhaps I'll reset and try again.

Tried it on my iphone 4 (ios 5) for the first time today and works fine. No idea about what settings I've got as I've never changed them from default
