Off topic........but.................why do some apps. only run on jailbroken phones :nenau

From an app. writers point of view isn't there more money to be made if it runs on all iPhones :nenau

Some app developers don't want to add to the coffers of Apple Inc. Some apps will go against some of the business links that Apple have ie: charged tethering vs free tethering. Others piggy back on the principles of this, such as wifi sync. Consequently, there are a lot of apps that Apple will not sanction & these can only be installed via alternative installer programs, such as Cydia, & the only way to get Cydia is to jailbreak the phone & remove the tie to iTunes. This creates a free market instead of one that's controlled by Apple & there are people around the world who don't like being controlled - I'm one of them... :thumb

May be a bit of a 'hitler video' by now but I don't think I've seen it on here :D

It is also time consuming and expensive to get an app through the Apple certification process. I have heard of apps being rejected because they used an icon which was too similar to an Apple icon, so they had to rework it and go through the process all over again.

A news update:
iOS 4.1beta has been released to registered iPhone developers & initial reports are that it corrects the signal strength bars & makes them indicate more accurately. However, it does nothing to resolve the antenna problem. Apple are holding a press conference tomorrow evening, 6pm UK time, but won't tell what it's about...

iOS4.0.1 is out now.

apparently does nothing for "Grip of Death".

no surprise there then

I received my iphone 4 on Thursday and I am over the moon with it. I had an 8gb 3G before and I have to say the 4 is superb. I haven't suffered any drop off with the antenna, even with the new OS 4.01. Now if Apple are going to give me a free case, then that even better. Brother got his as well on Thursday and he has had no issues either. :thumb2

I work for a mobile company. When I can get one from work I'll have one. No way will I go pay the kind of £ we (and all the other companies) are asking for them - or those plan charges.

I got one for the wife, and she's very happy with it. The screen and camera are much better, and the LED flash is very useful.

It's not enough of a step up for me to pay £200 for the upgrade, but I'll get one in a few months for sure, when the cost to change has dropped.

The new OS makes the one on the iPad feel outdated.

iphone racing

interesting comparison of all 4 generations of iphone.

Is all the signal dropping stuff real or exaggerated?

Any left handers out there with experience?

Got my iPhone freebee bumper case today, really like it and with the zagg protection front and back still keeps the look. Have to say that, yes if you put your finger on the join, the signal icon on the screen does drop a bar, but I haven't had any dropped calls.

apple recently refunded me the £25 i paid for the bumper at pre order :)

i also have the zagg invisible shield on front and back. less shiny, more stealth, less glare, and less slippery :thumb2

It's both real & exaggerated. As Shedracer said, it's really easy to induce but just as easy to avoid when you're aware of it. It was excellent news that Apple are giving bumpers to solve it completely & mine's currently en-route... I've never dropped a call & find that the sensitivity is miles better than my old 3G which never picked up a signal of any sort in the downstairs part of my home. I get a 3G signal everywhere in the house with the iphone 4

Anyone interested in jail breaking their iphone4 or 3GS with the latest iOS can now do it as the jailbreak was released overnight. It's the easiest upgrade I've ever seen & is available from http://www.jailbreakme.com. You don't even use a computer - just use your iPhone to go to the address & follow the instruction (there's only one) then wait & load Cydia.

I would also suggest researching & saving your shsh blobs as the exploit being used will get closed & saving these will make it possible to rejailbreak whenever you upgrade the iOS. Favoured method is via http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/
