iPhone or iPod mount for GSA?

I'm really suprised that I can't find something for my iPhone or iPod to secure it to my bike. I want something that is at least shower proof and something that won't take up alot of space around the handlebars. Otterbox has been mentioned but their in the USA and I still can't find anything they do for this purpose. Tourtech don't seem to do anything for the iPod or iPhone specifically either although I did see these but not sure if there going to be too big plus really expensive for what they are?

I don't want to keep my iPod in my pocket as I want to be able to use it and link it to an autocom system or am I asking too much?
 
Thanks Ash, I saw this case on the bike who also had the Nav3 installed before I bought mine. Not sure which RAM Aqua Box he had but it was MASIVE! Mind you it would make a good lunch box! Which one do you have small or medium as they don't list the 2000 model?

Any photos?

According to the dimensions the iPod would be very lose inside but according to the photo it's snug? If it fit snugly then it's perfect. Next question can these be bought in UK?
 
Paul, can I just ask why you'd want to mount your iPhone/Touch on the handlebars instead of keeping it in a jacket pocket?

Those otter boxes? they don't seem to have any bracket for RAM mounts or the like to fix to the bike? I already have a protect case for my iPhone and iPod but neither can fix to bike?

Secondly, if the iPod 80Gb is a problem on the bike I could always use my iPhone - that solid state.

What's looks interesting it that the USB power cable is fitted in this picture which means you could power it from the bike!

Otterbox looks good - a better fit but I can't see anyway these can fit to RAM mounts cause they don't show pictures of the backs

Whatever case I buy it has to fit a RAM mount in order to fit the bike? Otterbox doesn't seem to have any RAM mount fixings for this? Unless it's glued!
 
Do it the easy way with the ipod.

Keep it in a tank bag (there are lots of threads and pictures on what type to get) / your pocket / inserted up your person.

Use a Logic controller (or something similar - do a search or Google 'remote ipod cntroller' or something along those lines) to control it. The controller can be velcroed to the screen support (you won't need a photograph, use your imagination). It is simple and it works.

Had you bought a Zumo you could have Bluetoothed the device to the phone. But you then need to get a method of hearing it, so you will need speakers for your ears and some method of joining all the devices up.

If you buy an Autocom or a Starcom you can get a Bluetooth dongle (that's the phone problem out of the way) and wire in an iPod, a radio, radar detector and all manner of things. Do a search.

If you get either an Autocom or a Starcom there are lots of threads (and pictures) on the various types and on where / how to mount / power them. There are also lots of threads on which bike-to-bike radio to get and how to mount / power them, too.

Contact GSRich (via the site) or at Autocom. He is very patient with customers.
 
I use an I-Pod on the GS & I find that the easiest way is to just put it in my top pocket of the jacket on suffle, with over 7,000 tunes never gets boring, no vibes, don`t have to mess around disconnecting at fuel stops etc.
I would have thought that having it mounted on the bars would only act as a dangerous distraction while riding, trying to change tunes, pick playlists, alter volume, skip tracks etc. surley not good.

Belkin SportCommand FM Transmitter for iPod

Use it with an old Nano and it works fine. Easy to mount on handlebar guards with touratech extensions. Easy to change tracks/volume. Also used it with an iPod in my pocket and worked fine as well. Not used it with my iTouch yet.

i used to use something similar in the car when i got my first ipod, it will certainly do the job whilst you keep the ipod out of the elements:thumb2

Guilty as charged, though have been good since making my New Years resolution to cut back on gadgets :rolleyes: (note, not cut out gadgets :augie)
