iPod charging?

I've got a 1gb Shuffle that I charge up by plugging straight in to the USB port on the PC, obviously I've got iTunes installed.

Can I charge the battery on a PC that's not got iTunes installed?

Yes with a shuffle - won't work with a biggie, as a standard usb don't chuck out enough power - have to use the firewire port if you have one, or the mains charger obviously.

Sorry - brain fart - depends on your pooter - neither of my pods (clicker and Video) will charge from the KEYBOARD ports of my Mac, but small solid-state MP3 (Creative) will. All work OK from main USBs/firewire.

It's just a guess mind, but I bet it was the software supplied, that he uses for managing music files?

The 60Gb and 80Gb will charge off a USB port but it has to be USB2 port, or at least mine do.

The ports on the Mac keyboard do not carry the power to charge iPods however they are not designed to be used as a USB hub but as ports to attach the mouse too. For charging an iPod use either the ports on the computer, be that a tower, mini or iMac or attach a to powered hub.

Really, mate. You should know by now that some of us are technological halfwits. iTunes gets my McFly and Busted songs from the big 'pooter with the keyboard to the little white music 'pooter with the wheely thing and the headphones. It happens as if by magic and I know its magic 'cos I plug them in and it happens just like that.

And yeah, my little white music 'pooter, which is very old, gets its electric city from one of the socket thingies in the side of the big 'pooter.
