Ireland - Donegal and Antrim coast, hotels, tips & hints

So, we're here again - the trip in 2023 was aborted (for various reasons) and Leenane weekend is in 10 days time for 3 nights in Connemara
I have planned a 6 night break (3 nights at Leenane weekend (Fr/Sa/Sun), so that has left me with 3 nights spare
Ferry to Belfast on the Thurs morning, I have booked in at Tubbercurry (near the in laws) for that night
After leaving Leenane, I have booked in at Ardara for the Monday night (is that a doable distance from Leenane in a day)
Tues I was thinking about doing more of the Donegal coast and ending up at Buncrana (is that an ok place to stopover?) and then a dash to the Ferry at Belfast on the Weds morning, via Derry
I realise I can't do it all, in a short space, so I thought I would do justice to a small part of the Donegal coast

Ardara (pronunced Ardragh) is easily doable in a day from Leenane. I'm sure you already know about the road from Leenane via Doo Lough to Louisbourgh / Westport. The road from Westport to Sligo is a bit more scenic going via Ballina.
It is worth exploring the area between Killybegs / Glencolumbkille / Ardara and do the Glengesh pass (both ways of you can).

From Ardara you could follow the part or all of WAW (Wild Alantic Way) around the coast of Donegal and end up in Buncrana. Let me know if you need route or waypoints for the WAW and I'll sort something out. It would be easy to short cut the WAW route to Buncrana if time was short

Buncrana itself is a decent seaside town with a few good pubs - The Drift Inn, O Flaherty's, The Cottage bar

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

Many thanks for the tips
I know the Louisburgh route, past Croagh Patrick (was there 2 weeks ago) well enough and then fancy cutting up near to Ballina and onto Inishcrone and then know the Sligo to Donegal route
If you don't mind doing a route from Ardara to Buncrana - the long way up the WAW, that would be great and I could sort out the short cut, if the weather turns/time gets cut short
I thought Buncrana was as good a place as any, to stop - before a blast to Belfast Port, on the Weds morning

If you are heading to Belfast from Buncrana you might want to head from Buncrana to Strabane and Up to Plumbridge and go along Glenelly to Draperstown and Tobermore before joining the A6 to Belfast. Much more scenic than the main road, no traffic and very little in it in terms of time.

Both good suggestions :thumb

Ardara in a day is no bother to you JB

And Mzokk’s suggestion is also worth doing

See you In Leenane 😉

If you can, you should also include this road (south to north would link in on the final run into Ardara). Spectacular views & the Assaranca Waterfall is worth a stop.
Owenwee River Waterfalls

And your old Garmin Montana is it JB? Mind I have to say to Wapping, that JB is pretty damn good with his map in front of him and it always surprises me.

Finally, amazing job Mzokk!
