Ireland - tips?

Going to Ireland next month. Haven’t been there for ~ 30 years, and never on a bike. Belfast to Rosslare via the West coast.

What’s the gen on things like filtering? Any other traffic or riding tips? Where to look for cheap fuel (if any?)?

Spare bulbs? Yellow jackets? First aid kit? Anything else like that?

Any “must do” or “must not” s? Particularly thinking of driving, but anything else?

Anything else to know?

Filtering is usually fine as long as you don’t act a monkey.

A lot of attention on speeding at the moment but nothing needed in terms of bulbs, hi viz etc. I’m saying that in the eyes of the law, I personally wear a Helite vest.

Great time to be on the west coast, some amazing places. Take a spin on the N59 if you can !

Northern Ireland - same rules as the rest of the UK.
Rep of Ireland - pretty much the same really (except Kilometers Instead of miles)
If you have break down recovery in UK - might be worth checking to see if you are covered in the Rep of Ireland. I think if you are an AA member you are covered.
The Causeway Coastal route from Belfast to Derry links in nicely with the WAW signs, which are well placed and easy to follow.
You might want to consider taking the ferry from Magillian to Greencastle in Donegal, to save time. Check that the ferry is operating first tho.

We’re going on Friday, afternoon sailing to Belfast and staying in Carrickfergus. Saturday around the coast via the aforementioned ferry to Dungloe then Leanane and the last night back in Belfast. We were going to go England, Scotland Northern Ireland, Ireland, Wales but this was poo pooed by the lads as nobody wanted to go to wales.
The weather is looking pretty good so bring it on.

So much more to see I can give you about a sozen "sections" that you would want to include just to see BUT they won;t be on any tourist Guide!!

If you want some for East Antrim and East and north coast and Donegal hit me up and I will sketch them out in Google maps and you can have a look from Google streetview! #NotMainRoads


Are you on Trail style bikes (No off roading But Single track not great on a ZZR if you get my meaning !

WAW is a con and a tourist trap, I see what you mean, but at the same time if you want to do the five peninsulas on the South West you will end up on the WAW.

Tips, stay in villages not cities, if you like a place, stay another night. Go to the Beara Peninsula.....

Not much choice of beer on there. I don’t do lager or cider. Looks like I’m going to be struggling for a beer in Ireland. I prefer scotch whisky too. Maybe one of the other bars will sell beer.

Thirty years back, the beer was Smithwicks. Horrible stuff, gave me dreadful gutrot.

I think I’ll have to try the Guinness again…

Yeah Rome doesn’t have much in the way of beer either. I don’t mind the odd pint of Guinness but it’s very rare. I’m sure somewhere will sell beer. Lager is to me is just fizzy piss, cider? Well you can’t make beer out of apples.
My brother lives in Ireland and tells me there are some proper beer brewers. That’s my quest, to find beer in Ireland.

Plenty of decent micro breweries all over the country. Translates into a fine selection of local brews specific to the area you're in. After arriving into Rosslare, I'd recommend tracing the coastline clockwise towards Cork /Kerry. Plenty of fun roads, decent scenery, good pubs and craic to be had.

We’re a little north of there. Carrickfergus, Dungloe, Leanane and Belfast for just a short whistle stop trip. One of the lads likes a good craft beer so I feel sure he’s already on the case.

Most bars these days do have a couple of bottled beers so I’ll no doubt find something. I might just pick up a bottle of decent scotch enroute too.

You will, without a shadow of a doubt, be able to purchase a Scotch in every pub in Ireland.
