Is £3k a reasonable price to pay for a 650GS .. not Dakar

In the current economic climate I'd expect to get a newer than 04 bike for that money. Depends on extras etc.

Trippy's 57 plate xchallenge sold for £3750 as a benchmark.

My 51 plate Dakar with 17k miles would fetch around £1600 with panniers and quite a few TT goodies IMHO:thumb

Flip,

You'd be giving it away at that price, more like £2400+ with all the boxes etc. Mind you, looking at you sig; you've bust the thing [F 650 GS Dakar :bluesn2s] :nenau

The X challenge and it's stable mates go for surprisingly low money I've noticed. :nenau One of these would definitely be worth a look IMO.

Indecisive,

If your looking for a 650gs you should, if you know what your looking for be able to find an 05/55 with less that 18'000mls for the money your thinking of.
However if it's a Dakar your looking for then that changes to a 53/04 bike with no extras.
These would be private sales. From a BMW dealer you'll not get anything for the money your thinking of.

If your not worried about mileage 'which the 650s take very well' 40'000 is nothing to these bikes. You might find one for quit a bit less.

For example; we just sold an 04 650gs with 41'000 on it for £2,200 that was a well traveled (Bolivia and Europe) and a well looked after bike, with almost full history.

Good luck.

I agree with you to a certain extent ... my only cavet is that there are lots of stock and not a not of buyers.

Take the F800S or ST. About £6.5k for a nice low mileage example. I am tracking two on ebay, and no one was bidding more than £3.5k for a slightly less than perfect ones. Same with R1200RTs .. £7-8k but no one is buying.

Eventually all these dealers and people will prefer the cash to the bike ... I am just asking .. HOW LOW CAN IT GO?

Anybody remember what things were like in 1991? The only thing I remember from that recession was house prices, because I had just started working (albeit as a student placement). One of the managers there had been a saver and went to auctions to buy house. They were dirt cheap, unthinkablely cheap because no one had money!

Just want to make sure I don't buy too early and be the one that's left without a seat when the music stops! :nenau

650s are quite a lot cheaper than Dakar's, that will always be the case even though there is very minimal difference between them.

For some reason the current generation of BMs are not sparking so much interest in the S/H market. I'm guessing it's partly due to the complexity of the bikes '1200gs included' making people look at the 1150 & 650s and the like, with their proven reliability and relative ease of maintenance.

Yourself and Flip are both right. The X series and the F800's are falling in real term value much faster than the R1150/F650's
It's got to be worth watching to see what happens over the next couple of months, hasn't it? There could be some nice kit going a some very nice prices quite soon.

Best thing I'd suggest is:

If your not in a hurry/desperate, wait till January to see how the market is going. It might turn up something altogether much better.

Do you think this was good value at £2950?
Probably yes, although I'm always suspicious of people selling a bike for a friend, which this one is.
If it helps, my 2002 650GS at 20,000 miles in very good condition with a few extras I would value around £2000 but whether I'd actually get that in these 'ere 'ard times I don't know.

Looks like someone got a nice bike there. Loud pipes if you 'like them' Shame there wasn't a top box.

I'd advertise one like this for around 2'100 and expect to get 1'800 plus.

Ebay is a wonderfull place. Good for research.

Recent experience in the market

Hi,

I have just bought an F650 GS Y Reg (2001) for £2450. Its only got a couple of mods - Hagon Shocks are the main one. The bike has done 37,000 miles and is in good nick.

The point I am trying to make is that £3000 is not an unreasonable amount as these bikes are getting more and more popular (cheap to run, cheap to insure, epic mpg, and not made anymore). You should be able to get some of the extras for this money or at least a mileage around 20,000.

I waited a bit for mine to appear in the ads and I was lucky to get it. The Dealer wasn't aware of the appeal of the GS brand at all and he was getting loads of calls and said that he thought he should have sold it for lots more (he would have got it too!)

I think some of the prices quoted by other people here are WAY too low.

Good Luck!

PS BMW insurance for a BMW bike is really cheap - which was a nice surprise and has allowed me the money to get a pannier rack!

how much would you get for an 07 plate in mint condition with heated grips, hazard warning lights, abs, taller screen clear indicator lenses, bmw top box with inner bag plus on bike at present givi top box, panniers bmw ones also with inner bags bmw ones. plus i will throw in my 2 bmw jackets, 5500 miles on the clock.

Got told a week ago by a triumph dealership they would by it from me with the bmw bike bits for £3500 at trade price, how much privately? since this thread is about prices.
