Is a weak return spring at the root of the gear change issue?

Here's where I'm at with mine.

Mine was fine up until the first service, after which the change up from 1st-2nd was awful and the change from 2nd to third only a little better. All other changes were fine.

I informed the dealer who arranged for the bike to have the uprated pushrod fitted, which was around 3mts after the initial complaint.
I was told after the pushrod had been fitted that it would be around 500mls before there was any difference,I asked why this was the case but the dealer said he didn't know, but said that he would appreciate feedback after the 500mls.

After 500mls there is some slight improvement but not to the "silky smooth synchromesh gearbox" level which the manufacturer claims.

Yesterday and today I have spoken with Motorrad Technical via BMW customer services.

Their response is, that they are aware that there is a significant problem with some bikes but as yet do not have a fix.
They are working on this and are confident that a fix will be sorted in the not to distant future.

In the meantime I was offered a very nice little sweetener as an apology for my inconvenience and assured that the problem would be rectified.

The bike is not unrideable and although it doesn't live up-to BMW's claims in some areas, it's still the best GS I've owned and ridden by far.

It does make me think though, that if a fix has not been achieved then all the new GS's must be leaving the factory with the same problem and they're just going to fix the ones which develop the problem ?

Personally I think they've held their hands up admitted there's a problem and are working to rectify it,which so long as they do so is OK by me,plus I was very happy(for now) with my little sweetener.

Probably the fact that there are a lot of owners riding around and fortunately not getting the gearbox issues has allowed BMW to address only the individuals that come back complaining. BUT if they did indeed find a solution I would expect a note from my dealer to get done whatever as course.

That just about sums it up. But my sweetener is going towards a new GSA.

Now in the car factory I work I get 5 mins to fix a brake down or I get the full set of clean work wear brigade standing over me.
I doubt it took them much more than a year to develop the engine so having to wait nearly a year for a fix is just a joke, if I told my boss it was going to take a year to fix any fault
he would have a stoke and we would both be out of a job.

As you may have guessed my place does not have a sense of humour perhaps the Germans do.

Just returned from dealer. I waited whilst they test rode the bike. They then reduced the oil level as thought it was too high and advised me that the BMW line is to give the modification fitted at first service a while to bed in. As to the rear brake they did a thorough system check and a full system bleed. Rear brake problem now resolved so I am guessing a bit of air trapped in the system. The tech guy said he bled the system with the pump pressurising the system. It did the job. As to the gears not a lot of difference. Still the massive jolt into first and crunchy from first to second and second to third. After that it is pretty much normal. Going down the box is fine until going from third to second and lower. Sometimes the clonk or crunch is loud enough to make you jump. I will give it the benefit of the doubt. As I was leaving the lock barrel came out of the sat nav holder in front of the tech guy. He couldn't fix it so it will go back next week for a new one. Glad it happened whilst he was standing there. I am beginning to become paranoid that it is just me !! Should say the service at Vines Guildford was polite and they did it while I waited.

HI, mine gone in again to AJ's for them to carry out work rec by BMW ?
loaned me a F800 r . what a difference on the gear changes ,just done over 100 miles and every gear change as sweet as the next !!
Makes me re assured for complaining about my gear change on the LC ,they are CRAP, will have to see what the outcome will be on mine ,also a big difference on the heated grips on the LC they are poor compared to the f800 ,they are great ..
would like the gear change and heated grips like the F800 and I would be a happy guy !!!

The gearbox issue certainly doesn't effect all bikes, I rode both my bike (gearbox bangs and clatters like a shit house door in the wind) back to back against the dealers demo, the difference was like chalk and cheese.
