Is ABS a dealbreaker on this one?

Conversely when ABS becomes required by law on new bikes, new ish bikes without ABS may well command a premium.

there's only a few oilhead GSs without ABS, but there are a few people who'd not have one with, so resale seems to balance out ok from what i've seen.

i think i'd still have bought my current bike if it didn't have ABS. it was far more important for me to find one without ESA and it was the only new one in the UK.

And on the other side of the fence, I have no interest in the "you must have it" bollox :D

Personal choice and each side of the argument has it's merits:thumb

Yep the OPs question is impossible to answer as its down to personal preference. You don't have to have it though that's for sure. Personally I like the current ABS set-up :thumb

I think you'll find they will go the other way.:rob Why would people want bikes without something that could potentially save their lives?:nenau

Dealers, GRRR

Dealer response when BUYING a non ABS bike " oh so sorry, cant give you much for it cos its not got ABS, have a biscuit.."

Dealer response when SELLING a non ABS bike. " OH well it doesnt have ABS so its MUCH LESS to go wrong"

This conversation occured because i managed to speak to the seller of the non ABS bike, and the other side of the conversation emerged because I made enquiries about the same bike with the dealers.

Dontcha just love em.
By the way i have heard all the usual "Dealers have to make a profit too" bollocks. there is a bit of a difference between making a profit and stitching some poor mug punter up like a kipper.

Long story short is that i bought the bike concerned direct from the seller and in turn saved myself a very big wedge of cash.

So, non ABS wasnt a deal breaker for me, was for the dealer though:tosser. Perhaps if this dealer had offered a sensible amount in the first place things would have been different.

Happy days....

How do you know it will

On all the times it has really 'come on ' on bikes that I've owned, it has increased my braking distance & made the bike more unstable

On non ABS GS's I've had both front and real wheel 'lock ups' at times above 40 mph, without too much drama & managed to control the bike ok

Come to think of it - a particular feature of my XChallenge is that rear brake always locks up on tarmac, everytime you use it, so you just learn to 'self-modulate'

ABS

I had it put on my Vauxhaull van as it was only £300 extra along with a passenger air bag (comes as a package) only because as I found with other vans of mine they get loaded up and if you have an emergency stop in the wet the whole lot just locks up and slides!!. had it on bikes lovely till it goes wrong!.

Ive only ever heard about problems on BMW's ..... And at around £1000 BMW are the most expensive of any manufacturer to offer it as an option.

abs or not

I can't understand why anyone would want ABS on two wheels anyway. We ride bikes, you should be able to feel the brakes and road without it.

I agree, even with ABS fitted (and it does go wrong and faulty) you still need to have total feel of the bike and it's relationship with the road or whatever. Never rely on such technology, the best abs is in your fingers and head.

i think the best ABS is looking where you're going.

...but i still specced it on my GSA :)
