Hi all

I was concerned about the drive shaft on my paralever gspd but on taking it out it seems fine a slight stiffness on the lower joint at extreme angles but otherwise smooth and no obvious play.
BUT when I turn the gearbox output coupling by hand it feels very notchy and positively tight in at least one position. It selects gear fine and other wise seems ok.
Is it about to go bang, I havnt drained and looked in the oil yet to see if there is any debris.

The reason I suspected the shaft first was when pushing it backwards out of the garage I could here a distinct clunk . This seemed to go away after a ride when it was warm. Is it the gearbox or am I becoming para (lever)noid.

Thanks for any advice

Give the output shaft a sharp tap with a soft faces mallet and see if it improves. They can jack the shaft which pre loads the bearings and will cause them to fail. If it doesn't improve after you've hit it i'd look at getting the bearings replaced. With the driveshaft out of the way it's a simple job to get the gearbox out.

I've just refurbed my airhead gearbox due to the same notchiness... This felt pretty immediate to the flange and when i disassembled the whole thing it was a bad output bearing brought on by water leaking in through the speedo boot which is a common prob it seems... The rest were OKish but were changed anyway due to the miles...

Thanks,

there is a comment in the classic bike mag on R100s which refers to the out put shaft bearings. The gearbox is now out and the input side feels ok but he output / drive shaft is u/s.
