Is it me??

Had my bike now about 4 weeks and i'm a little concerned. Its second hand and done only 7860 miles when i got it. However it sounds pretty rattly. Chrysler Alpine springs to mind. Are they supposed to sound tappy. I've test rode a 1200ADV and a GS, and they didnt rattle or tap. Surlely BMW dont make an engine that sounds like that. Am i making too much out of it, or do others sound like this.

They ALL do that sir is the usual response
BUT they do seem to prefer 20/50 oil to the one thats recommended 10/40?? I think.
But then again I'm a old airhead owner and they always chatter away to you

My 12 was like that until i TOLD the dealer to do them on the 12000 service as they had not done on the 6thou when asked to do so. I did also say i wanted 20/50 oil, maybe it was the adjustment or the oil don't no but it is now a very different bike. When they have the rocker covers off at service time they just stick a feller gauge in and if it is within the range thats it. Do it yourself Via Steptoe's picture book or get them to do it.
