Is it ok to have different makes of tyres front and rear?

It wouldn't be wise to fit a full off road tyre at one end a full road sports tyre at the rear, but there's absolutely nothing saying you can't. If it was an issue there'd be warnings on the tyre walls, but there's actually much less difference between brands and types than most people make a fuss about, compounds are within a fairly tight range and other than block style off road tyres, most tread patterns are devised by the marketing department. If you load up the rear of the bike to go on a big trip you change the balance of the bike completely, nobody seems to rush out for a different rear tyre though.

Bmw issue a list of recommended tyres for each bike which isn’t very large.

Never seen such list, but, two things: 1. Recommended, and, 2. Not a legal requirement.

Bmw issue a list of recommended tyres for each bike which isn’t very large. Insurance companies are always looking for ways not to payout and this would give them a good reason not to pay a large claim.
I am sure this will work fine, but I wouldn’t risk it

Insurance companies would pay out even if you were riding like a knob whilst shitfaced. I really don't think they are too bothered about tyres. If they were, they would ask you on the proposal form.

I am going to tell my mate but he’s is bound to ask (as he knows stuff) what is a large claim? I ask ‘cos his bike is a real shitter and is only worth a couple of hundred tops. I guess that’ll be OK? It would be good to know or he’ll maybe go off on one or worse, have to give up biking, which is probably what the fat cats want. It always is. One rule for them and one rule for us. Why only yesterday my mate was telling me about some bloke he heard about who had a bald tyre on his car and the headlight was a bit dodgy, his insurer heard about it and now he has no insurance and is facing nick.

Was there also a sticker about wearing a crash helmet and something about the types of oil and fuel?

My Honda had a sticker about drive chain tension and another about two people sitting on the bike at once.

Mixing tyre profiles and makes. Often done in off roading, mx, enduro etc. Even road racing, BSB, WBSK, MotoGP.

Just make sure the tyre is round at the bottom of the wheel. If it fails that look at the top. Still round then it is good to go.

I’ve always had new tyres from my dealer.
They do a decent price, check it for recalls or updates while it’s there and usually find me a loan bike for the day.
I also trust them to change tyres without feckin the pressure sensors, or if they do they’ll quietly fix it.
Plus, having been without a Motorrad in Aberdeen for a long time (nearest was Dundee), I want to give them my business.

"Recommended", doesn't mean compulsory, and even then it'd have to be written in law for the rip off insurance bods to claim the roof over your head, so said my mates, mate who delivers food/sandwiches to a solicitors chambers in the Temple, EC1, thereby qualifying him to offer advice on all things legal.

It's why i died back in 1985 while riding my laverda jota 800 miles in one hit to the Bol'D'Or while having a Metezeler on the front and an Avon on the rear.

My current K1300gt came with different tyres, Continental on rear and Bridgestone on front, it passed it MOT like that.
Bike rides okay I've done 1500 miles mostly A9 or motorway and not had any problems. But when they need changed it'll be matching pair.
