Have all the problems now been sorted on the 1200gs as i'am now in a position to purchase one or should i leave it a while longer?

all wise comments welcome :bow :bow :bow

It's always been safe - there have been some issues but BMW warranty is a very powerful remedy and you will probably need it even if you buy a 1200 now.

FYI I use mine every day - 550 miles per week - it's done 20,000 and is a dream - never been more pleased with a new bike.

Buy it, ride it like you stole it, call BMW to fix it if it breaks - and relax! :beerjug:

Buy with complete confidence.

Ride it and enjoy it.

If it goes wrong, sort it.

If you want one, go ahead, there are plenty of good 1200gs's around, there always has been,

I've had an early one which would probably be described as one of the bad ones by some, 15 warrantee claims in 18,000+ mls, sounds bad, but it was still a fantastic year, it never let me down, & was lots of fun. A lot of the warrantee claims would have been turned down by any other maker, and alot were covered at service times, I used a string of faults to pressurize the dealer/BMW into somekind of compensation, this resuted in my second 1200gs, an 06 model, again its had a few problems, mostly minor and again it has never let me down, all have been sorted by the dealer in a very profesional manner :thumb

If it floats your boat, buy one and don't read the 1200 section on this forum UNTILL you've got a problem, its worse than having a medical book at home!

Agree - buy and enjoy!

12 months, 9,000 miles and only a couple of minor issues in that time.

Great bike so get one ready for the spring and summer. :thumb

Always has been mate.

Depends on your level of paranoia and how much notice you take of the merchants of doom. :mmmm

Of course, now that the macho model, sorry 12Adv has been launched, the 11xx boys and gels will be piling into the 1200 market so it's entirely possible that the perception of the 1200 will improve dramatically.

All IMHO of course. At the end of the day, only you can choose. If you are worried about the reported probs on the 1200, try an 1150 Adv. I rode a mates the other day for the first time and, this is gonna hurt, was rather impressed. It does feel very bulletproof indeed and he nearly kept up with me. :eek

Im on my second 1200GS

Bike 1 Nov 04
Bike 2 Jan 06.

Maybe I was somewhat unlucky with bike 1 (and I'm not going to bore everybody here again with the list of woes) but there are a lot of differences between the old and the new. The early problems I had with the 04 bike have not repeated themselves with the 06 bike.

Plus fit & finish better too

In answer: I've been one of the doom merchants with my old bike but it was built in the middle of the bierfest from disguarded bottletops and garters.

A well built 04 bike (niggle free) is a great bit of kit, but the new ones ARE improved!

I picked up mine in jan 05. Never had any problems with it at all :thumb

All thats been done is the softwear upgrades and the fule pump recalls, all these were done at sevice points.

I did almost 7000 mls last year, hope to do at least 10'000 this year.

Well impresd :D Val. H.

Agree with Mel.

Only done 4.5k on mine but all of them great fun. Nothing wrong (loose fork brace bolts aside...hmm) and excellent service from SPC in Hants. Failed to start once due to flat battery but it had been left 4 weeks.

SPC also advised 'ride hard', which is hugely satifying on a bike that looks like a steel camel. Instead of getting frustrated on superbikes at never getting a clear run on a fast A road, i now happily hoon around lumpy B roads and tracks.

Graham.........late 04 model

Coming up on 9,000 miles, very tight at first but from 8,000 miles it just felt a lot "faster" last software update also made it smoother.

As mensioned latest new bikes will have all the latest updates I guess?

More miles you put on the better the "12" gets :clap

Enjoy,

O?

So all this hype about rear diffs, fuel pumps, flat batterys, cutting out, is over the top bollocks! or is it i wounder, what porpotion of ALL the new 1200gs have had faults? :nenau

either way i thing i've been convinced :clap :clap :clap

i think i'll go down and order one for March 1 or there abouts, plus it does help when the trade in on the GSA is top money

thanks chaps :beerjug: :beerjug: :beerjug:

Just make sure it's an '06 one your getting, half the bikes on the local dealers floor here are '05 ones judging by the centre stands.
