I have a recently acquired 1996 PD Classic with low (7000) miles. Took it out for a 60 - 70 mile run today and running fine. Then it started to run rough at low revs. Tick-over's dropped from 1100 to around an erratic 700 RPM. First impressions were that it'd dropped a valve but it seems to be much smoother and pick up well at higher revs. I have a compression tester so can have a look at that if needs be. And so I'm thinking coil. The bike's absolutely standard. Any ideas?

same problem R100 gs, Carbs as clean as a whistle, going to look at the coil, leads etc. next. just a quick one are the carbs easy to balance? :guitarist

I also have a R100RT with around 200,000 on the clock. The Bings on the RT have take-off points for vacuum tubes and are a piece of cake to balance. But the PD doesn't seem to have those take off points so again, any suggestions how to balance these appreciated also.

The GS carbs have the vacuum take offs underneath the carb next to the pilot mixture screws. Your RT must be a heavy flywheel machine to have the vacuum take offs on the side of the carbs.

i'd check all the above and change the plugs, HT caps and leads, they're cheap enough ;) and it eliminates them. :thumb2
- but also maybe check the choke gaskets too. :nenau

Good Luck. :thumb2

You need to search the Airhead Forum - lots of info around and about this and these subjects.

It is a matter of elimination and regular maintenance
