Is it the motronic unit?

Hello, I've had an intermittent fault on my 2001 1150gs, 40,000 miles, which has now become regular, but not continuous. I had to be recovered last night...oh the shame.
The bike will start misfiring, or cutting out completely. The tacho dies completely, immediately that this happens, indicating not a fuel fault.
Sometimes, after this has happened, with the ignition on, but no engine running, the tacho is flicking all over the place. If you listen while this is happening it is possible to hear the coils charging and discharging.
I performed the reset procedure, and have taken all connectors apart and resaeted them to no avail.
Hence my motronic suspicion. Has anyone any helpful additional comments? Commuting on the train is a bitch!

The flickering rev counter sounds like the same symptom mine showed when the Hall Sensor was on the way out.

Good luck with getting it sorted... :thumb

Another one for Hall Sensor, that effect happens to a lot of people when the Hall Sensor dies.

It was the sensors

It did prove to be the hall sensors.
A huge thanks to Motorworks who let me have a second hand Motronic unit to test with as well, on a sale or return basis.
The beast is now purring like a kitten!

02 1150GS

Mine temporarily had some of the symptoms you mentioned ie misfiring and cutting out, below 2500 reves, but it never died compleely. It would cut out and then almost immediately fire up again lurching me acroos the road. The rev counter never flickered tho'.

Seems to be fine now but interested to know what the hall sensor is?
