You said wethead at the end of your post so I assumed you meant the LC and yes you can buy a 5/50 but the standard recommendation would be 5/40 .
I had 10/50 in my 2015 lc for 5 years with no issues at all ridden in all temps everyday of the year over 40000 miles. Much quieter especially when up to temp. My new 2018 will get the same as it’s noisy.
Yes i can see where my typing leaves some ambiguity![]()
5/50The five part is mmm it's the 50 bit thats more interesting, its the upper viso where it's needed. it may be the wethead can survive with the 40 weight as its got forced cooling,
the 50 could be good.. as an aside "just because it's recommended" , based on what? extensive testing, or a.n other has the contact to supply xx oil in bulk at the lowest bulk price
All decent manufacturers do a 5/40 they might pick a brand based on price but not the viscosity......its worth trying the 5/50 its mainly used in racing and quads I think , its harder to obtain / slightly more expensive usually .

I have used this oil manufacturer for years on various bikes and cars (100k plus miles in total) with no bad results.
They do a 5/50 as well which i might try now i own a GS.

..... not such a problem if you are putting a different oil in the gearbox / clutch obviously but you wouldn't want to use that on a motorcycle with a wet clutch.Just saying Opie oils have a large range OF 5/50 CAR OILS

Thats fantastic ....... IF you like putting car oil in a motorcycle engine..... not such a problem if you are putting a different oil in the gearbox / clutch obviously but you wouldn't want to use that on a motorcycle with a wet clutch.Just saying
........ see above![]()
The only requirement for the bike is API SL & JASO M2 As long as it has it no additives eg molybdenum it will be fine which is rich because most oils wont divulge what is in them![]()
