Is my FPC on its way out?

Coming home from work the old girl started to sound like a single cylinder thumper. On idle and throttling lightly the exhaust sound sounded fantastic but clearly something is wrong. The last time I experienced similar symptoms was on my Caponord which started with a faulty coil, then a replacement FPC, and finally the whole fuel pump. I'm not getting any warning lights and managed to get home fine. She starts on the button.

Before I start digging about - anyone have any clue where to start???

As always - thanking in advance.

I'm sure Steptoe will be along soon enough, but my experience and some of my colleagues(albeit on RT's) is that the FPC's just stop dead, they don't play up first. :thumb

Mine cut out several times before it gave up the ghost. then the bike ran like a dream, then it stopped, right outside my house. But it doesn't sound like an FPC problem.

First, see if the bike runs properly tomorrow and the day after. If it does, then who knows it may have just been a passing sulk. Put it down to thebweather.

The easy way to find out is to put a new FPC in and see if it runs properly. But that may well just be a coincidence. What you are describing could be a variety of things, from a duff battery, to faulty coils, to throttle bodies, to......... Well get guessing.

You could try swapping the coil packs over to see if the duff running moves.

This thread is well timed as I was wondering if I was experiencing a pending FPC issue: all of a sudden sounding rough at tickover and stalling quite regularly along with a sudden increase in fuel consumption ( getting about 40 miles less per tank) Have recently put the baffle back in the exhaust (to get through the MOT) and had a new battery fitted... Once going tho, there doesn't seem to be any noticeable issue.

I should probably check the throttle bodies... Any other suggestions welcomed!
