Is the BMW comfort seat any good?

My bike came with a low seat but I found it too uncomfortable. Dealer let me try a standard seat but I thought it much the same so I ordered a comfort seat. its o, a bit better but it has a "hump" so I cant slide along the seat to stretch the legs! So if I was going to do it again I would take my standard seat to a upholstery man i use for classic bike seats and get it rebuilt from the base up, it would end up at least as good and would have been cheaper!

Hi,

I'm new here, and for my first post feel inclined to add my comments. I suffered the standard 650GS twin seat for the distance it took me to ride it home from the BMW dealer. I then borrowed a comfort seat and suffered that for about 1000 kms. I reverted back to the original seat and bought €30 worth of fluffy black sheepskin. Brilliant for both comfort and warmth. So for anyone thinking about the comfort seat, I would suggest a smaller investement in the sheep or airhawk, before potentially wasting your hard earned cash on a seat which might not suit!

The comfort seat is way better than the original seat, bit more restrictive on movement as you can't move back on it but such a difference from the original.

It is also good for pillions and you don't get them sliding forward in to you like you do with the original seat.

Mines a 30 year so had the red seat which I was disappointed about not using but when I trade bike (eventually) in the red seat will be in perfect condition.

Any chance of a picture with the comfort seat on your 30 year as i have the same bike and would be good to see what it looks like:thumb

If you don't get anyone posting a picture before hand can have a look for a picture for you, working away at mo so won't have chance until Sunday. Remind me on Saturday by posting in this thread.

Not good shots but may give you an idea http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=272511

Oh thats brilliant thanks, I think the fact that you made that journey proves the comfort seat is worth it actually looks quite nice so i will be investing in one ASAP and i think im sold on that top box to:bounce1. Plus you were only a few miles from me in that picture at the commando memorial :-)
Thanks again for the pictures and what a good thread.

I did less than 2k miles on the Comfort Seat before selling my 800GS after 15k miles on stock seat. The Comfort Seat does make a big difference. It's slightly wider so your weight is spread over larger surface area and it also holds you in position. Much better for a pillion too. Yes it's marginally higher than the stock seat but it's minimal. When I took the Comfort Seat off and rode the 150 miles on the original seat to the dealer where I was trading in my 800, the difference was very noticeable. The stock seat is so damn hard and pushes you forward into the tank. The Comfort Seat remains under my bed just in case I buy another 800. It was worth keeping.

Hi, am thinking of buying the BMW comfort seat for my 650 gs twin, having searched on here with mixed reponses..:nenau ..is it worth the £250 and has it a big improvement over stock..cheers:beerjug:

Yes and yes. I dont own one but I have travelled a longish distance on one and my arse was still not uncomfortable even after 200 miles

Hope these pics help
