IS the TFT Screen worth it?

Im still confused as to the amount of people that say they cant read the speedo on the standard clocks, surely if your eyes are that bad you should do something about it................and dont say i did, i got a bike with tft

Yes, I think so

Lots of info, very clear to read and the music and phone connection work great with my Freecom 2 headset/IPhone

I just wish they’d integrated the Sat Nav properly instead of the silly direction arrow thing....too focused on selling Nav VI units no doubt

Im looking at getting another R1200GS Adventure.
Can any one say whether the TFT is worth having?
Bikes with these are more expensive than without so curious really.

Yes it is.

It’s just for those moments when your going past a speed camera and you want to be absolutely sure of your speed :)
The other thing that bugged me was being tall and having the GPS in its cradle the top of the clocks was cut off.

The old clocks are a fair distance away, not a problem for some but us old buggers that are short sighted then need special prescription glasses as looking through normal varifocals the clocks are then blurred because they are further away than the reading part is set for. The TFT also makes it easy to see what your speed is in your peripheral vision so you can concentrate on where you're going rather than looking at the clocks. I prefer the TFT but other opinions are of course available

As your eyes get older it is very common for the lenses to harden and start losing the ability to focus on close distances quickly or at all, hence the need for reading glasses. You can still have excellent distance vision for driving, but just find the tiny digits on the analogue speedo hard to take in at a quick glance. I've tried bifocal glasses but the reading section tends to cause distortion when looking sideways at junctions and for shoulder checks, so the TFT screen is a big improvement.

I got the TFT on my 2018 GSA Rallye mainly because I believe it will give me a better resale price/make my bike more appealing when it is time to sell or trade! I tend to use my Sat Nav as a speedo

Interestingly although it is usually easier to read than the 'old speedo' I really struggled when riding towards the end of last year with a low sun right behind me (I could still see my speed on my Nav V). Can't be rocket science to develop a screen that is not blanked out by the sun. Never had this problem on my Yam S10!

Maybe BMW should copy Triumph and make a TFT where the console can be moved up and down to try and eliminate this problem

I think the TFT is a big improvement over the old one. There is a lot of information available .You need to spend some time with the manual and playing with the screen .I have just had the latest upgrade done to the screen here in Oz and all works well including phone music and gps warnings .I think BMW have done a great job on the screen. My brother rides the latest Multistrada (poor chap) and the BMW screen is far better than his.Actually my rallye is far better than his.Good luck with your decision.

OK, the die is cast ! Previously enjoyed Triple Blackish GSA with the TFT ordered.

I can read the clock on the old one but as others have said its the instantaneous ease of the digital number that wins me over.

I've never had a problem with low sun on mine Mike. Have you fitted a screen protector by any chance? I believe this can cause problems with reflection.

I prefer the TFT.

It's far easier to read your speed at a glance and other essential stuff.

As another member earlier mentioned he preferred to look at the road , not a fancy TFT screen missed the point, a good screen means quicker picking up info from it and less time eyes off the road. some dislike them just because they havent got one with TFT.

What a crock of shit my oppinion was based on exactly that, my oppinion, not the fact that I couldnt afford the tft, the tft in my oppinion is something you either want or you dont, i have no problems with my eye sight, so in turn find the original clocks etc. Perfectly adequate and in my oppinion look more original, im pefectly able of reading the road and distances, speeds etc. Without having to rely on techno crap, but if that makes you feel safe, then each to there own, im not disputing the look of the tft, but for me im just not into all this technology crap and certainly dont get blinded by the bullshit of having the latest "in" piece of technology, a bike is a bike at the end of the day, but the way its going at the moment, bikes, more so bmw will be even more like a car on two wheels, for me, that defeats the whole purpose of riding two wheels, yet some people like all that

Most of the TFT is taken up with that “awesome” RPM display.............. which absolutely no-one other than people who are admiring their acquisition - ACTUALLY look at on the road.

If you truly believe that a prominent (and flashy) RPM indicator is relevant to riding - then you should have bought a train set.

I must be the only one who actually finds the analog clocks fine,

I find a good old needle on a scale easy and instinctive to read at a glance, so I can keep my eyes on the road
No, your not on your own mate

Imo tft is a nice idea and looks cool and like others could afford a new bike tomorrow but I got my gsa 2016/66 when I wanted to change. now again it's not that I cannot afford a new one with TFT it's just I have only done 15 k and want to enjoy what I have so I ask myself would a TFT make the bike any better again imo no and the price to change to a new one is just stupid atm so for the feuture I will enjoy what I have and make the most of it

Nope same here, I keep my eyes occupied looking for the radars..........

TFT flat screen is great ...................... for sticking navigation Post-its on.:rob

Obviously you will not be buying a new boxer then,

Your attitude is appalling and a blight on this site, you need to adjust your response to other members who have a right of opinion without a childish onslaught.

See earlier post.

Not seen you for a while. Where have you been hiding?

Good point as I do have a screen protector fitted.

Only happened a couple of times last October riding with the very low sun right behind me. Never a problem in Spain and Portugal in the Summer.
