Is there a car that can replace GSA tarmac thrills?

Try a Cooper S!

A proper well sorted 60's Cooper S will amaze at what it is still capable of.
!00hp is easily achievable ,light weight, excellent brakes. pin accurate handling and laugh a minute on the right bit of tight road.
Capable of embarrassing many current cars in the right hands!
I own a 1970 Model with some sensible mods, and a GS, the grin factor is equal.

As mentioned already, the only car that would come close IMO is a Caterham:thumb

Oh yes! Never thought of that. :)

I had a basic Mini 1000 that could embarrass a rally prepped Hillman Imp. A tuned 1275 would have left it for dead. :)

This book will keep you busy for hours

Also why not drop a 1000cc bike engine into a small (fairly) modern car like a Fiat Punto Mk2. The Fiat engines are pretty good for tuning, but bike engines are more fun. :D

In reality the answer is No

I have a corvette as well as my bikes and it will certainly give you some thrills, lots of horses no electronics and very wide tyres ( and a 2 turn steering rack) certainly make life fun, but only when you want to give it some welly, which in a car on British roads is pretty rare.
Any car is a bore in a traffic jam, or in normal traffic.
Also if you think a GS is dear to run, try a Porche!!

A workmate with a Boxter told me it cost him £1000 to have the spark plugs changed plus I guess the oil and filter. ;) Bet on double that for a 911. :eek

Aparrently, the engine had to come out to access the spark plugs.

I paid just over half of that for a 911, admittedly by an independent; 6,000 service was £582.
A 996 or 997 being newer are actually cheaper, again from an independent.
Cheaper than some bikes it would seem.......
