OK so I broke down and bought a new GSA. I'm due for my first service and I was wanting to know if bmw has found a fix for the fuel gauge or am I just pissing in the wind trying to get my new $22k motorcycle to work correct?

Is it broken or telling lies?

Common issue for new ones to have a dodgy sender so get them to mend it under warranty and all will be well:comfort

I had the local dealer tell me that I could expect to see a little variation in the fuel readings and that the fuel range would change as the bike adjusted it to my riding habits. OK I can live with that I tell my self. I don't like to fill the tank to the top because 70 lbs of fuel is a little cumbersome offroad. So over the weekend I decide to take a little trip out into the lands of closing gas stations at 5pm. Its 4:30 and I stop to rest and fuel if needed. Great Ive got half a tank and a range of 288 miles. That will work as the next town is only 60 miles. Its now 5:30 and Im about 20 miles down the road when the yellow light comes on and the fuel gauge is on Elvis. Expected range 20 miles.I guess they expect you to just continue till you run out and leave it on the side of the road! Needless to say I promptly headed back to the now closed fuel station and waited. So is there a fix? What about this CIP 12 ?

As a matter of interest, what did your odometer read? Do you not use the odometer or do you rely on the electronics?

I had a problem with mine when new and it would just suddenly drop so had it changed under warranty......no problem and now it`s deadly accurate.

The range is determined on how hard you are riding. If you are bimbling along it will give one reading as the bike is not using much but as soon as you wind the throttle open, the range obviously drops like a stone.

If your bike said it had half a tank with 288 miles, I suspect you were either riding at about 40mph or the sensor is fooked. My GSA does around 300/320 on a tank and I use the trip meter as a double check on the guage.

Anyway, great riding country you`ve got there. I was in Oregon in 2005 and now all about gas stations closing and 50 miles between towns. Had more than one moment of yellow light on with 40 miles to the next gas station:eek:
