Anyone know if the adventure has its own site, thinking of getting one..

Yes. It's called the New 1200 GS and is inhabited by Adv riders explaining why they dislike the 1200 :D :D :D :D

What you want to know

QUite a few of the gang on here have had both and there are 100s of threads on it if you search.

Any burning questions, let us know.

Adventure v normal gs

OK,

As it is slightly taller, is there more buffeting?

Is it as easy to handle at sloooooow speeds?

How much heavier is it?

Is the taller screen too big?

Can it "really" handle off road?

Geeze I ought to book a test ride eh??

Just like earwigging on current owners really, you sort of get a feel that the dealers dont tell you, like a wierd kinda vibe man..

Funny, the 1200 with all its praise does'nt float my boat at all really, it just looks too weedy, no presence if you know what I mean, unlike the mighty gsa.

Is it as easy to handle at sloooooow speeds?NO difference IMHO

How much heavier is it?FULL IT IS A BITCH, if you have the big tank full, easier to drop if not careful

Is the taller screen too big? NO NO, tobinators will sort it out for you

Can it "really" handle off road?
Yes, fairly well on gravel and slightly heavier stuff. I recently broke mind on not to rough conditions but I am slightly large!

chasr - i was out recently with a couple of gs1200 riders - they stopped twice for fuel while i battered on - felt pretty satisfied - i'll stick with the big boys !!

they are beautyful aren't they ?

I bought my silver Adv end of july and made two trips with it.

the first trip was a week to the pyrenees and around France for about 5000 km, with passenger and fully loaded. Last week I made another (about 4000 km) trip to the alps and the italian riviera with a friend who rides an RT. With the tobinators I could easily cope with the RT at 180 km/h motorway speed , no buffeting but a little windpressure on the chest. In the mountains it was far superior to the RT.

Before I bought it, I tested both the 1200 and the standard 1150. It does imo feel a little bit heavier (30 l tank) than a standard GS
but that also may be due to the higher sitting position, I 'm only 1.80 m tall so with the suspension at the hardest setting , I cannot flatfeet which makes manouvering the bike whilst standing almost still a bit scary at first.

I'm not very offroad expierenced, though every now and then I try to take some dirtroads or ride in the field (already made a fall after I had the bike two days). I think the bike can handle some offroading very well but that the limiting factor is the ability (and the lack of courage) of the rider.
Last year I've seen some video clips of the BMW offroad trainingcenter in Hechlingen. At that time the instructors rode an ADV and did some amazing things with it.

anyways, I've nearly done 15.000 km with the bike now,and I do not regret my decision of not choosing the new 1200.

hope this could help
