I bought a R1200GS MU Last week. Polished it then parked it on the street. An hour and a quarter later some p***k backed into it with a truck. He hit the front of the bike. At the time the bike was on its centre stand. There is damage to the front and side were it fell over. But its the damage to the centre stand mount points that Im interested in here. I thought the mounts looked bent. The dealer says they look fine.

What do you think?

My worry is that the mounts will be bent back into shape and in doing so be weakened.

Where the centre stand is bolted onto the frame. I think the mounting lugs are out of alinement.

That is your 'Sidestand' mount and no I do not think there is anything wrong with it. The fork end of the sidestand where it goes over the mount looks like it may be loose though.

Looks fine to me. I disagree with Steve E re the "fork end of the sidestand where it goes over the mount looks like it may be loose though". I suspect he's referring to the side stand cut out switch (apologies Steve E if this is not the case).

As regards the centre stand, I suggest you remove it - if it goes back without any need for "brute force and ignorance" then everything's probably OK. If not you're looking at a new rear subframe - £860 plus lots of labour....

looks fine - the lever part of the stand where you step on to raise the bike is meant to bend before the mounting points... The points should be the second bit to shear off before it plonkers the subframe... I bet a tenner your subframe is fine...

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I should get it back next week all shiny and new looking :)
