In view of the latest R1250 postings, it made me wonder, so I posted the following over at the KTM section.

Do you think this is impolite?

Quote:
I joined this forum a few months back, and I stay at the BMW section, since I have (and ride) several BMWs.

But the weird thing is, no matter what subject comes up, there is always someone that has to spread negativity. And the weirdest part is, they don't even drive the bikes them selves. Some have previous ownership of BWS, others don't.

What they seem to have in common though is that they now ride KTM. Not Honda, not whatever brand, they ride KTM. This puzzles me. I have several friends that ride KTM, and they are all fine people that enjoy riding their bike.

In here, when reading posts in the BMW section, I sometimes wonder, does the KTM come with a stick up the riders ass, and is it optional or standard?

I don't mind you guys enjoying your KTMs. But I enjoy my BMWs. I am in the position where I can buy the bike I want, when I want, and BMWs are my choice.

I find it highly disrespectful that other riders can not get into their head that not every one wants the same as they do. And not only do they not understand it, they also have to throw dirt at others at any given opportunity. True, it's probably only a few guys, and this makes me think that the stick is probably optional.

Well gentlemen, to the ones having a hard time sitting down: Next time, try ordering your bike without the stick. That will make you feel better.

To the grown up majority of KTM riders, my apologies for bringing the subject up.

That a fine post and truthful.
Thanks

There is absolutely no need for that. We should all get along and take the piss out of Moto Guzzi owners.

I think you need to get over yourselves ;)

Owned 10 GS's over the years and still have a R Nine T in the garage along side the 1290SAS.

Both GS's and KTM are very good motorcycles but I cannot see myself buying another GS :augie

PS - of the 10 GS's - 20% of them were rejected and went back to BMW for a full refund. Owned 4 KTM's now - none of which have had a serious issue :rob

Rubbish. It's a valid point that BMW quality is going backwards. I can see KTM owners who have had many, many BMW's and are very well qualified to comment. They've observed quality decline and now don't believe in continuing to indulge in BMW's poor product.

I don't have a KTM.

If you continue to buy BMW that's your choice. It doesn't make their opinion less valid.

Keep on riding, check your spokes :thumb

Hi, there will always be trolls on any forum but you appear to be savvy enough to just scroll on past those posts.
Just because some of us are riding different brands at this moment in time does not mean that we don't ever see a GS in the garage at some point in the future. In fact some lucky ones (not at all jealous) have a Honda/KTM/Yamaha etc etc as well as, not instead of a GS and as such like to read/contribute to debate even if they don't own one right now.
As suggested - just scroll down past those posts, but remember not everyone on here is a Riding God, or has vast experience of the pro's and con's each bike has to offer. Sometimes the perceived negative views are simply folk trying to give a balanced view to put over enthusiastic gushings into context for those new to biking or brand blind.

I read owners reviews to get real world warts and all info and forums highlighting loose spokes (BMW), poor fuel filters (KTM), you get the gist, just fill in as many makes as you like, is why most of us are here for.

And just for interest-

I have had several KTMs and to be honest the quality was not brilliant either , 990 SM x 2 ( second one was better) , cracked wheel, rear cylinder oil leak after 12000 miles , two slave cylinders.
990 Super duke , oil leak again but after 18000 miles , split oil lines broken exhaust brackets , master cylinder failed.
Both suffered from road rust .
1290 s did not own it long enough to see but didn't like the bike (imho)
KTM 400 EXC faultless apart from bits falling off.
KTM 450 exc , gear box seals , shocks .
I have had issues with my bms but engine specific ie cams ( down to bad batches) and always sorted by the great dealer support.

Once I was given a lone gs to go to Europe on by my dealer as mine was waiting for parts , could never see KTM doing that as I have asked about the support compared to BM and they never seem to give an exact answer just "its covered mate".
Their point are valid its just some make them taste of acid.

Fair do's. I don't have a KTM like I say, I have a GS, so can't vouch for them, but find posts from some of the long established folks here interesting. See Paul's post for instance. Could well be KTM's quality now is improving, whereas BMW's is going backwards :nenau

True , but just because you have been on here a long time does not mean all we say is correct , me included.
Sometime a different perspective and opinion is refreshing.

Knutk I think it’s the way of the world even amongst my friends we never seem to agree. I’ve been sailing with a best mate he has a new yacht which is not what I would like to be in offshore. But he thinks it’s great and who am I in amongst friends to disagree. But overtly I call it a marinised caravan (that’s naughty) but because we are close friends and not on a internet forum I keep those comments to myself. Plus some guys are argumentative for argumentative’s sake , hey that could be me.
