And what a beautiful back end you have sir …… proper bike and view . Happy Days

Just been out today and done over 150 miles in the Alps including the Grossglockner loads of large adventure bikes out and about but for the first time in the past 20 years of coming down here in the summer it wasn't a GS/GSA fest with a huge majority of the bikes being BMW ..

This year I would say that for every BMW there was a large capacity KTM, unscientific yes but it shows BMW need to raise the bar and not necessarily with more power
Bollocks. My survey suggests more than half of all motorcycles are R1200GSs.

Tedious choice of motorcycle.

Ok you're saying BMW's quality has dropped massively but you're talking about a 10 year old bike.

It would also be interesting to know how many miles are on this 10 year old bike. Just to put the original comment in perspective.

Having come from many forums and running a bike forum myself (for Aprilia bikes) I can say that this forum is the most aggressive I have ever been on.

It does seems like some people are constantly looking for a post or person to pounce on. The view often being that I got a lemon bike so everyone else's in their opinion is a lemon and should be told so at every opportunity.

Having said that, forums are often a tale of woe anyway as people rarely post that everything is fine and dandy, they often seek a forum because they have a problem and want to vent. That's fair enough, but the manner of the venting on here is off the scale and as said often by people who no longer even own the brand but still feel the need to vent. I really don't see what's in it for them to be honest. Boredom, ego, I dunno ?

it's a shame as it really does lower the tone of the place having to read it and often it becomes a personal tit for tat not related to the topic. It puts people off contributing which is the biggest shame based on my own experience.

Spot on.

Some guys need to wake up and smell the coffee. If you think BMW has quality problems don't try a KTM or Ducati...
As also what is 160 hp good for if you can't use it if the bike wobbles like a 1975 Goldwing going faster than 125 with bags on...
Ready to Race ? Definitely not unless you talk about their off road thumpers !
But I would take a KTM over a Ducati because at least you save yourself a ton of money not having to replace the cambelts and spending lots of cash on valve adjustments.
I take a GS any day over a Duc 1260 or KTM 1301 despite missing 25 hp between 8000 and 10000rpm...Much better handling,TL,driveshaft and boxer engine that might save your leg in case of an accident !

Now you’re just being ridiculous!
Go faster than 125 ? I thought you lived in the US, where until recently you couldn’t go much above 55 without being pulled over by a fat trigger happy fed.
Actually I think KTM have a few quality issues but BMW are in a different league-just look at the numerous threads on here and many owners with loose spokes, rusting engines etc.
They even rush the release of a new GS with a major design flaw then withdraw it from sale.
You really need to take the blinkers off, though probably asking a bit much when you have a sporting event called the World Series yet don’t include the rest of the world.

Have a nice day.

Boxerlust , I think you got the wind up the bumcrack. lol
Total agree with your comments especially the wobble one as the one I had at around 90
the fairing wobbled like a fat birds arse , apparently I have never ridden a 1290 or owned on even according to the other side , oh well, at least I know the facts . But it is nice to see bumcrack getting wound up tho .

Last year, the mothership sold circa 50000 GS/A.

There are hundreds of thousands of GS WC out there. The proportion of failures are very low...

I like and own BMW bikes and cars. That is why I'm on a BMW forum....

If you don't like BMW, good for you. If you reckon orange/blue/yellow is the best - go your hardest.

Arguing which is best is utterly pointless on a brand-specific forum....

And to add the after service is second to non and the dealers try everything to make you happy and get the issues sorted no matter what.
Ok I have had issues but due to the way BM deal with it I don't mind as I have piece of mind and know the problems WILL be resolved.

In view of the latest R1250 postings, it made me wonder, so I posted the following over at the KTM section.

Do you think this is impolite?

Quote:
I joined this forum a few months back, and I stay at the BMW section, since I have (and ride) several BMWs.

But the weird thing is, no matter what subject comes up, there is always someone that has to spread negativity. And the weirdest part is, they don't even drive the bikes them selves. Some have previous ownership of BWS, others don't.

What they seem to have in common though is that they now ride KTM. Not Honda, not whatever brand, they ride KTM. This puzzles me. I have several friends that ride KTM, and they are all fine people that enjoy riding their bike.

In here, when reading posts in the BMW section, I sometimes wonder, does the KTM come with a stick up the riders ass, and is it optional or standard?

I don't mind you guys enjoying your KTMs. But I enjoy my BMWs. I am in the position where I can buy the bike I want, when I want, and BMWs are my choice.

I find it highly disrespectful that other riders can not get into their head that not every one wants the same as they do. And not only do they not understand it, they also have to throw dirt at others at any given opportunity. True, it's probably only a few guys, and this makes me think that the stick is probably optional.

Well gentlemen, to the ones having a hard time sitting down: Next time, try ordering your bike without the stick. That will make you feel better.

To the grown up majority of KTM riders, my apologies for bringing the subject up.

To answer your question and to try and not meander too much off thread.

In my opinion, your post is in the main polite and cogently written albeit with a disappointing reference (sticks) which, is an immature, vulgar and rude inclusion.

spoonz's post (no 21) when referring to this forum is valid. Much of the unpleasant text on this site is unnecessary. Furthermore, it's ironically amusing to think it is quite plausible and possible that ding dongs over this forum have sometimes followed a friendly passing biker nod out on the road between the same two people; if only they had known:augie:rob

It is dealer specific. Unfortunately many are very arrogant like my local dealer. They are so bad that many travel overseas to get bikes serviced.
