Sidestand down, in 1st, neutral light out, gear indicator goes blank

Isnt it the sidestand switch cutting the electrics? If you pull the clutch in, everything should power up again?

this is a safety feature to prevent the bike being driven with the sidestand down. It has a built in kill switch

You'd have made things clearer by letting us know which model your talking about - as the side stand operation is different between the 1100 and 1150 so depending on model you could have a problem, or maybe not.

It's not unheard of to have the sidestand switch removed... as it 'can' be a source of problems... being in such a vulnerable area it can get 'stuck' which results in a dead bike. I can understand the reasoning for it.. but to be honest you don't need it.
