Did you get the cameraman then? And we're you going so fast the wind folded your mirrors back?
 
Maybe the rear view affects his concentration. :)

At least cleaning GS wheels with engine running in gear is less likely to do this (but the spokes can be a bit tricky to catch).

The camera woman was out of the way. The mirrors were folded back, because if they weren't, when I landed, they flopped right down... It might only be a 600, but it's still a heavy old beast... You should have seen the front tyre on landing :D:D
 
I think I'm right in saying that running the bike on it's centre stand puts undue stress on the shaft and its coupling joints (because as you say, the shaft is sagging down..).
I've read a few threads on here where the mechanics of the forum are saying 'don't do it' .. :thumb2

It's a pretty bad thing to do.

As has already been said, UJs, or Hooke Joints, are not constant velocity unless running dead straight.

Broadly speaking, provided the drive shaft has been designed with the Hooke Joints at 90 degrees to each other, and the input is parallel to the output, the output becomes a constant velocity compared to the input. The shaft itself, between the two Hooke Joints is NOT constant velocity.

The trouble with centre stand running is that when the suspension is on full droop, the drive shaft is not parallel to the input and the constant velocity effect is lost. This means that the wheel, in itself quite a flywheel, has to marginally accelerate and decelerate with each rotation of the drive shaft. This all sets up a shunting which might be what the OP complained of.
 
I fitted a longer rear shock to my Yamaha Diversion 900. It jacked the back end and handling was great but going slow on a hill I could feel the drive pulsing. It went back to standard about 10,000 miles later and drive has been fine.

In normal use the shaft and torque damper would absorb the speed variations. But allowing it to run light and snatch back & forth would really stress the UJ bearings.

As @Greg Masters says UJs are not constant velocity, they move fast & slow twice with each turn.
 
I'd wee on it. Whistle a low c and clap three times. Failing that build a shrine to thora herd in the garage the sacrifice a monkey bike to it......am I helping
