Is this normal !

Sorry should not have said torque.

Yes but you are measuring the force at the rear wheel this is force at the crank multiplied by the gear ratio is it not?

When bike is at Neutral, measuring force which is required to turn wheel takes into account: tranmission shaft and gearbox output shaft resistance as although all cogs are fully meshed but they rotate freely on their shafts ( input + output)
When bike is at 1st gear with clutch in, we measure force which consists of: transmission shaft resistance, 1st gear engaged resistance(ratio), input shaft resistance and clutch drag.

I don't know how much force is added to spin the wheel as a result of engaged 1st gear, but I wouldn't expect to contribute it to 100% of force compared with neutral test. As I mentioned in my earlier post, rear wheel is catching occasionaly and force required to move wheel from stationary is ranging from 4-6kg ( * 9.8). I'm assuming that resitance caused by engaged 1st gear (cogs locked on their corresponding in/out shafts) would not differ as the friction between cog's teeth should be constant, so the only part in engine that works purely on basis of controlled friction is "CLUTCH". The only way to find out how much force is "lost" as a result of engaged gear would be to remove clutch and let gearbox spin freely. I see your point here.

As the wheel is "catching" I can think of warped clutch plates, or some other factor which could be oil, its stickiness at certain temparature and also its volume in clutch chamber.

Its work in progress, these bikes will get better refined in time, I'm sure BMW's R&D is constantly on the case, its very strange why every bike is different.

As pistole states the clutch pull deffers, my 13 was fine clutch release exactly the same place and that bike dragged that bad when you changed down the box and blipped the bike would drag, my 14 did differ only when cold once upto temp the pull was exactly the same place and the gearbox was snick snick , this 15 engine is exactly the same release as well regardless if cold/hot. Three bikes 13 - 14 -15 and all with different characteristics, 15 having the worst gearbox.

For the price the bikes should be right before they get anywhere near the public and not use us as development riders

I agree but the vast majority of owners don't report problems and they stay quiet - my early 2013 bike is fine, different to my twin-cam and the first 1200GS but not what I call a problem.

Ding-Dong;

Sorry for your troubles !

If it was my bike I would burn the clutch a few times in order to make it selfadjust. I did this with a 2013 GSW i owned previously and had some improvement. If you decide to try this be careful to do not over do it as you don't want to overheat the clutch discs to the point they become bluish or you may have problems with warranty.

THE END .

BMW UK stepped in and so did the dealer, I'm happy with the outcome thanks to the dealer.

Now time to sell all the farkles

oh....you mean s1000XR?

Nope, S1000R. This one

I could be tempted by the R, my mate has a matt blue one and we did 10 days away and he had no probs at all and he don't mince around on it either, I'd prefer a bit more protection, I'm looking forward to seeing the s1000xr at the nec however dealers have already had an influx of deposits !
