Not long had my 1150 GS and not sure if this noise is normal.
Their is a constant humming noise when the bike is running.

Is something about to let go or is this quite normal ?

Also is it possible without removing the fuel tank completely and just lift it slightly or is their not a lot of play ?

It is very difficult to diagnose noises from afar, can you work out where the noise is coming from by running the bike on its stand? I tend to find earplugs work well for making noises go away!

You can lift fuel tank from the back and prop it with a piece of wood, enough to get at battery - longer term would recommend fitting quick release fittings to both fuel pipes. In 8 years I must have taken tank off a couple of dozen times and makes it a lot easier.

Which year is the bike and do you know if it has servo brakes? Humming/whiring could be servo pump or fuel pump. But as grim rider says, very hard to diagnose a sound without hearing it. Can you give more detail such as when does the sound start, when you switch on, engine not running? Etc etc.

The noise seems to be coming from the front end of the bike. I can hear it better when listening near the handlebars. It's on all the time the engine is running. How will I know if it's got servo or not ?The bike is a 2002 and done 45000 miles

It's the fuel pump - first thing I noticed when I switched from a 1200.

Also first thing I noticed had disappeared when the bike broke down - yep, knackered fuel pump. . . loud isn't it? Also, it gets louder as the tank empties.

I only hear mine when I first switch on. After that, once the system is primed, I hear nothing....so knackered fuel pump sounds like a good bet...

If you search on here you'll find links to sourcing an Audi pump that is identical the to the oem pump but a fraction of the oem cost.you might add well fit a new filter while your in there. Lots of info available on doing this job. First detail is to take great care removing the nuts. Easy to tear off one of the little studs....

I fitted one several years ago. Runs fine. If I remember correctly only needed alteration to wiring connectors. There are some kits including wiring and filters on EBay for about £22-29 though don't have any experience of these.
Thanks for that, I will get one ordered.

Can anyone recommend a good supplier of the quick release fuel line connectors ?
