Hi Guys and Gals,

Im planning a long weekend trip upto skye and possibly some of the highlands.

The idea at the min is -
Day 1-travel up to skye via mallaige from SW scotland.(I believe there is a campsite with a brewery  )
Day 2 -Thinking heading up by Lochness towards inverness and the black isle(stopping to see eilean donan castle)
Day3 - Head back south

Anyone know any must see places or roads that i can see on the way up or down.

Cheers

The little ferry from Skye is well worth doing http://www.skyeferry.co.uk/ £5 for motorbike. It will mean going North on the A87 a bit to get to eilean donan then retracing your steps South to Lochness.

Applecross going over the tops is well worth doing while in the area.

www.lochbaybnb.com is well worth a stay Lovely clean and fresh and Good Nosh in the morning

If you are doing the Wester Ross Trail do it anti clockwise i.e. Turn right after you hit the peninsula Applecross coastal route then pass of cattle gives you stunning views on the way back to the mainland

That wee ferry Kylerhea - Glenelg is awesome certainly more charismatic than the bridge!

jist a wild guess here , but you're no a native doonhamer, are ye ?????

Think ill give that a miss then ! Cheers

He's a nice old boy, really. He spends all day pottering around with his chickens and tatties and is quite harmless. Bit keen on the Jagermeister, he is....:D

The guesthouse is run by his missis and is rated one of the top B&B's on Skye. I know that a few people on here have stayed there previously and they'd definitely recommend it.

The owner's a grumpy Bastard from memory..... but he knows his Whisky and has been known to put quite a few away!

The lady of the house more than makes up for his grumpyness and drunkerdness though.:flag

It's now a Temperance establishment. You get turned away if you even admit to liking a Ginger Beer :rob

FFS Hebby..... I was thinking of a wee trip within the next few weeks.... You've just burst ma bubble. I'm afraid to ask Rab for a room....
I think he broke a bone in ma hand last time he shook it.

Don't s'pose I could stay at yours.... I need my whisky when on the bike. Helps me sleep ya know :pullface

On a serious note for those wanting to see Skye.... Been there many times. The A87, road to Skye, is THE best biking road in the UK.

50 miles of bends, every one exciting, but none will catch you out. Then Skye itself.... So different from the Mainland, but don't think of it as a wee island. It takes at least a full day to see it. Do an overnighter at least, if you have time.
Waternish is a must. The local is awesome and ALL the locals are class. Can't wait return. You've just put me in the notion. :aidan
