ISTA and K-DCAN cable

I'm trying to avoid buying an ICOM unit though. I am just using a K-DCAN cable which has worked in the past on other bikes like the S1000RR, F800 and K1600 but only for diagnostics.

I never got it to work and bought a genuine ICOM NEXT in the end.

The “issue” with this is that BMW don’t use the standard OBD pin outs on bikes and it’s looking for an ignition +12V which the bike side is not giving it.
You get the “ignition not switched on” error even when it is as it’s read the bloody bike!

Is there a resolution to this? I am having the same issue. ISTA reads the bike but wont clear codes as it cant see ignition voltage.

You can add a +12v to pin 1
