I’m after some advice. Our house is a new build & has Cat 5 cabling. My wife needs to hardwire her work pc (on Wi-Fi at present) but the Cat 5 socket in her office isn’t working. On opening it up the orange wire to terminal 1 is broken so I’m guessing this is the problem. However only terminals 1-4 are connected. This is at the case at the socket by the router. So should I connect the other terminals up?
Many thanks.

Built in redundancy, only those required are connected. Similar to wired telephones, six connections, only two made live.

Depending on the wiring standard (A or B), solid orange is either to pin 2 or pin 6. This is the punch down block from a socket. Two pairs are used.

Thanks all. I’ll wait for the punch down tool I’ve ordered to arrive & crack on.

2 pairs cabled, are you sure it’s not just cabled as a telephone socket? often they’re RJ45 rather than RJ11
The sockets have a RJ11 &RJ45 side by side. Also the upstairs RJ45 had all pairs connected albeit the orange was broken. I’ve tried retiring it with no joy so the house builders are sending someone out to look at it
Thanks again for the suggestions.
