At the last service I asked the dealer to disable the self-cancel on the indicators (2008 1200GSA) because I find its a pain. Always switches off before you reach the exit on a motorway, or half way round a roundabout.

The dealer actually told me they couldn't disable the self-cancel, but in fact they did it. Or possibly they set the timeout to be so long that it appears not to self-cancel. Unfortunately I (and they, it seems :blast) don't know how it was done so I can't pass on the method. I only know that it is possible!

I suspect that passing on the method would only be helpful to anyone who has access to a GT1 and if you can use that system properly, you should be able to work it out for yourself.

Dealers presumably have the equipment but they can't work out how to do it! Dealer who did my previous service couldn't do it at all; 2nd dealer fixed it but didn't seem to know how they had done it!

Oh, the delaer who actually succeeded in disabling the self-cancel is Cannon in Braintree. Whether they can tell you or another dealer how they did it, that's another matter.

I totally agree! When I raised it with Pidcocks, the reply was "you'll get used to it", which I assume means they have no idea how to adjust/disable it.

One of the inputs is for brakes being applied, so all you've got to do is to tell the control unit the brakes are "on" for it to never self cancel. Might fook up some of the controls other functions though

The self cancelling function can be altered using the GT1 computer, but you do have to enter a sub-programme call CIP to do it.

If you just tell your dealer to do it in C.I.P. he will know exactly what it means

Yeah, its a complete PITA for me i must say.

They're forever going off too soon i find.

Id love to be able to lengthen the time or cancel the self cancelling

was convoy overtaking to get to work on time this am and concentrating to the max didn't help needing to feck about with the indys as well imho

I wonder if the duration varies from bike to bike in their settings, on my first GSA they seemed to last for ages, on my current bike only half the time :nenau

How long is half of ages? :nenau

Skip that, I have worked it out.

Half = middle.

Ages.

It has been flashing since the Middle Ages.

Ah, so you are late for work and as a consequence in a dashing hurry..... and that is BuMW's fault?

Who were you indicating to, when hurtling along the outside of the convoy, eyes on stalks in concentration?

Do you believe that the orange blinking light will give you some magical protection, not afforded by your headlight alone?

Talk to Skipsong in the bunk below. He'll tell you something from the IAM or Police Riders Handbook, that will disavow you of that belief, I'm sure.

Why do you want to cancel the self-cancelling function?

IAM and the Police Riders Handbook require you to put your indicator on at the III (3) marker on the run up to the motorway junction you are leaving. If you do this the self cancel will have kicked in before you reach the I (1) marker. Other road users will, reasonably, assume you have changed your mind not that you have an ill designed apparently non configurable BuMW. In short -its Dangerous.

I asked my dealer - "computer says no"
