It was a dark & stormy night, and the rain came down in torrents...

Javier, the recovery driver, has his dog - Hector - guarding the compound...

Hector has probably the deepest bark I've ever heard - it was like a tiger coughing...

He's a Spanish Mastiff - a sheep dog. Javier says he feeds him loads, but can't seem to get him to keep weight on.

Personally I think a hungry Hector is probably the best anti-burglar device yet invented... :D

How are the mighty fallen...

Wow, what a shocker!
I decided to get myself a drink and some nibbles, and settle down for a most pleasant hour or so reading your report.. and then this!
Having not long returned from Spain myself, having done a lot of the same roads, I was almost riding it with you.
All the best getting it all sorted.

That's dreadful.

But you are well so in the grand scheme of things that's the important one.

You do need to have a quick word with young Hector as it looks like he's knocked your bike over, hopefully it hasn't damaged it.

Bloody hell Mike....glad you are ok. So much enjoyed your report until the last few pages.....take care TD :beerjug:

What an absolute bugger for you Mike:(

I was saying something similar to Vern only yesterday, some bikes are irreplaceable.......your's certainly had a great innings and went out with style!!!

Glad you're ok:thumb

Some are, Tim...................

But Mike will build a great bike to ride again

Well, I wasn't expecting that!

Burning up on a tour with no major injuries involved - a bike's equivalent of dying with your boots on. Not the worst way to lose a bike, but still painful and shocking, I'm sure.

Relieved to see that you're OK and hope that the burns will quickly heal.

Once again you have raised the bar on travel reports, I don't think that many others will have such a dramatic ending of a Viking funeral for an old friend and workhorse.

Let's hope that there may be something to salvage, perhaps the gearbox internals at least.

Keep well and best wishes

oh man - that is horrible for you Mike. :(
Mind you - She went out in style.

Hope you end up with the wherewithal to replace like for like - or as close as funds allow.

Good Luck for the future and Thank You for a really good (up til then) ride report.

Bloody hell Mike, sorry to read about this. My first thought was thank god you weren't riding it when it burst into flames.:thumb

Gutted for you, really enjoyed the report and doubt many others will end like that!
Stu

As everyone else really, shocked .

Just pleased your OK, bikes are replaceable, however much loved they are, and I'm sure you'll find another to lick into touring mode shape :D.

That's been some bike for you Mike, I remember your first postings in your Inspection of the Colonies some yrs ago now and all your subsequent tours and enjoyed every single one of them :clap:clap:bow.
