ita a bit quiet in here at the moment

Sportsters are great, so long a you embrace the Sportster ethos (minimal, lean)

I have an 883R but I'm not sure how much lean I should be aiming for to embrace this ethos. Isn't it lean that is getting me round corners at the moment or is it centrifugal force where you steer to the hedge, accelerate faster and hey presto you go in the opposite direction. Instinct seems to suggest that if I succeed getting around the corner in question then my lean angle was spot on so what advantage would it be to fit elbow and knee pads and attempt a Marquez. I don't want to look a plonker when up against a Hymenbusha. I have seen a video of a tester on a Moto Guzzi California and he keeps going round the same bend in both directions scraping his footrests each time - why? If he leant less he would save the footrests, get around the corner and have nothing to complain about. Or have I missed the point!

Nope, no point missed. I reckon you'll probably fit in quite well here! :thumb

It seems to me you've achieved minimal lean if nothing touched down and you didn't crash :nenau

This is true to a degree but I would have thought that the angle of lean between nothing touching down and one barely adequate to get around the corner i.e. avoiding a crash, could be considerable. The embracement of the aforementioned ethos ( the minimalist lean approach) would lie in achieving the angle barely adequate (possible brown trouser moment) to get around the corner otherwise the Sportster should be regarded as good as any other bike without reservation.

se rider can you post a pic of your bike with the apes and let me know what size as im thinking of fitting some to the road king

As long as you promise to put the original bars back on before i buy it next year....:D

at the risk of much merryment and mirth ,and piss taking i have bonded with this bike allready ,i just need some different bars as it doesnt have a screen at 75 -80 odd with low beach bars the wind is dragging you off the back ,with apes ill have something to hang on to .

its a keeper

the other good thing about the harley over the 1200 gsa is your not forever checking the for sale section looking for things (crap) to bolt onto your bike to make it more heavy than it allready is ,least with the harley your starting with a really heavy bike in the first place

I took a right hander recently and not only did my pegs touch down but i put a nice scrape on the lower side of my exhausts....

I did nearly shat myself but my mate following said it did leave a rather impressive show of sparks.....

Bit like my arsehole at the time.....:D

Here ya go JD..

Are those bars "pegged" as well as clamped? if not, get it done...and the same goes for you too JA...when you go this way.......riding a bike with un-pegged apes with enthusiasm can lead to interesting situations....take it from someone who (now) knows...:)

Not "pegged" as such but fitted by a HD indy. I've braked quite hard whilst riding and as yet not had any moments.....

Im not a fan of the ape hangers but the rest of thst bike is fucking stunning Chris

I assume you are keeping it now:thumbup:

sent from ??? hold on where the fuck am I ??????

Hey Chad,

I am indeed:cool:

I love the apes and despite the look they are very comfortable to ride with. I am thinking of a change though and considering a set of beach bars to completely change the look and feel of the bike. Maybe a small winter project?

Chris
