Italian lakes...

If you can find one, its worth doing a guided trip to the dolomites. We did it a couple of weeks ago and it was very good.

If you are going to Lake Garda this place is worth considering - it's high up, so a little cooler than being down by the lakeside - great views of the Lake. I stayed there a few years ago, not 5* but good enough and great hosts.

Very biker friendly too.

I can recommend the Hotel Baia D’Oro also in Gargnano.

Not five star . Probably four and a half :-)

Salo.

A very refined sort of place. Suits me fine.

One of the ferry guys reckoned that by October they would be back to square one...

Maybe a possibility
One of the chaps I was touring with this week, came home and immediately tested positive
3 out of 6 GP’s at our Doctors practice tested positive yesterday (they sent an email)
Scotland is rife with it, you’re better off in Italy
Nice RR, love the pics

Thanks JB.....you may be right!

Much as I love Scotland, it is not blessed with climate such as that of Lake Garda.

Everything seems so much nicer when you've got the sun on your back!

I will come back, but possibly not on a motorcycle!

A very gracious spot to spend a Sunday morning..not least because of the young fillies parading in their finest.....and insubstantial...kit.

And no, no photys....I'm not some sort of pervert....

No pics of the young fillies ;) or will you get a clip round the ear if the mrs catches you.

A Norton and a Ducati with all the camping gear down to Italy in 1979; that's a story on its own sometime;

My 1964 Norton Atlas 750 and friend on his Ducati 900GTS, both two-up. I carried tent, double air bed, two Blacks Icelandic sleeping bags, cooking gear, clothing for 2, a can of Castrol GP50 and half a bike in spares plus the tools to dismantle it. Couldn't get all that on my 1250RT :eek

You are right there, something special about the Italian lakes, it’s own micro climate
Been a few times in the bike and prefer the less congested northern bits
Good pass at Col de Aprica

Enjoying the report. I love Lake Garda. Stayed at Torbole on a bike trip and Limone on a fly drive. On the latter we used the ferries to visit Malcesine and Monte Baldo. We went early in the season after my lad finished his GCSE exams.

You are right in that as we get older we have to change the way we tour on bikes. I am a big fam of the ferry to Spain to reduce the miles and when touring in a group where at 59, I am the youngest, we like to stay in a base for 3 or 4 nights so you do not have to ride each day.

So, after a very pleasant visit to Salo, we re-boated ...again the hydrofoil jobbie...and up to Limone.
The timetable meant a fairly fleeting visit to this very pretty...and very busy town.
A quick explore and some gelati....limone of course....and back on the flying machine for our return to Desenzano. Apparently the lemons growing in Limone are further morth than their usual range entirely fue to the micro climate.

I thoroughly recommend the all day ticket on the boat if you want to get around and see the most of the lake at its best.

So the next adventure beckons.....the train!

Off to the station by taxi and a very agreeable negotiation with a charming young thing saw us with business class tickets for the 'fast' train to Venice Saint Lucia.

We thought that it would be worth the extra for the air conditioning alone...

Don't forget to validate your BEFORE you get on the train. Have a great day .
Verona is also worth a visit and if you can get a ticket for a show in the Arena di Verona for a special night out.

An observation from left field....the skin artwork on display everywhere is astonishing. Virtually every young female is adorned with amazing tattoos. Obviously much of this would not be on display in Scotland due to the ever present risk of hypothermia. But I very much doubt that those on display here would be seen even after global warming in Scotland.

The tattoo parlours must be doing very well.
Just a thought.
