Does anyone know where this was taken?

It's a picture of my Dad.
I'd like to do a modern version of it.

I've spent the entire weekend tracking this place down, using the latest OS map search functions, google earth and my superlative detection skills.

Here it is today Chris :thumb2

Do you have any idea at all, even of the general area and can I post it elsewhere to see if others can identify the location

Sorry can't help Chris, just wanted to say that pic ooooozes cool..........good luck recreating it.

I don't want to state the obvious.......but I will ;)

I dont suppose your Dad would be able to shed any light on it?

Looks fairly flat so perhaps not the west of the county , also no sign of pit heads or pit heaps so that might help

I was hoping to make it a surprise.

Maybe I'll ask him and not tell him why.

Is probably nothing like that now even if you find the location. Better to do a photoshop job with the original picture.

Thats a nice thing to do for him.
Just ask him if he remembers, then if you find the spot and replicate it, that would STILL be a pleasant surprise for him.:rob...and good on you for the thought.

Footnote. my dad rode all over Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) and Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) as a member of the BSAP - British South African Police on his BSA 500 or Arial sq 4 complete with a constable riding his horse in the '50's and early 60's. As a kid in the 70's I remember seeing some photos of him as a very young Sargent alongside the Zambezi river in the valley where he was involved in saving countless wild animals - with 'operation noah' (google it) and subsequently Lake Kariba now flooded, but unfortunately no photos we had survived the loss of our farm and upheaval of the intervening years, plus the place doesn't exist for me to find...Though the 82yr old old fox does still bore my kids with the memories :clap

Apparently it's the Bee Hive Road...
I thought I'd seen that white gate before. ...

You should google map it and then street view, photoshop you and your bike on, jobs a good un ;)

Naww - given the reason I'm sure someone local will offer to take the pic and get Chris IN the pic ... :augie - for continuity like. ;)
