I really should be happy today as I have just got promotion at work, however my new position means I will be working 30 miles away from where I live and will traveling around during the day so I won't be able to use the bike to get to work on :( so this means, and I am very sorry to say this, but I have to sell my much loved 800 and put the money towards one of those 4 wheeled things, I believe they are called cars???:blast

So, I just need a little advice on selling the bike. I have loads of extras added to the bike. I'm guessing up to around £1000 worth. Mainly Metal Mule gear with a bit of Touratech stuff on the side.

My question is, should I sell the bike as standard or should I sell it with all the bling???

The bike has done just under 5k miles, 58 reg and has full service history with BMW. What could I expect to get for the bike:nenau

here are just a few photos... please let me know your thoughts

Nice looking bike, guess you cant afford this and a car?
You may want to move it to the appropriate for sale section for more viewing.
A lot of guys find it better to sell accesories seperate and the bike basic :thumb2

Sell standard and sell bling separately otherwise your £1000 will realize not much back ;)
OR
Leave as is and sell as a bargain and maybe quicker :nenau
OR
Take some bits off and leave the rest ! as a sweetener
:D

Yep buy a cheap car with the pay rise you get.I wouldn't sell the bike it's a cracker.

Keep everything and buy a very very cheap car ...

I got caught up in the company car competition sh1t once, and stumped up 14k for a new Golf - I kept it for a year then got stiffed by the dealer cos they'd sold me a dodgy import - I lost over 5k on that for a year's driving ... then I bought a T4 van for myself, and spent a couple of grand on a decent Saab 9000 2.3T for work - I never looked back after that cos I was on 40p/mile allowance and travelling 30k miles/year - you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out who came off best on that deal .. Sold the car the year after I left work for a quick grand ...

Just a thought

I bought a cheap clio £200 for the winter but I may have to take clients out to lunch and I dont think the crappy clio would go down too well...:hide

I have some of the bling posted on in the items for sale area under 800gs bits for sale, I will be listing more soon...

Bike look immaculate & fantastic. The clients would remember you more if you turned up to collect them for lunch and passed them a helmet, gloves & jacket. Being a bit different has advantages.

If you decide the bike has to go, then sell the bling seperately. The bike looks good on its own. Good clean bikes will always sell, you won't get any more for it with the bits left on.

Cheap Clio is for getting you to work. If you need to take clients out then hire a nice motor - £50 a day tops, and get the firm to pay!

Good idea.

Alternatively, sell the Clio and the bling, and buy a slightly better car? You can get a pretty tidy motor these days for not a lot of cash, and you get to keep the bike.

The generic advice on selling a bike is to sell it as standard as possible. You'll get no extra money selling it with the bling. If you do get any, consider yourself lucky or skillful. BMW dealers will offer you a tad extra if your bike is fully loaded, but my experience says that the extra goes to cover "additional mileage" on the bike.

When it comes to the car, get a cheap banger. If you need to take clients out and the rental option isn't an option, then get a larger old car that could be considered a classic. Like an older well kept large Mercedes. Excuse it with "I don't know, I just love the car, it's comfortable and reliable".

Try not to sell the bike... You'll only regret it. And ultimately if your employer wants you to provide for customers, then your employer should provide for you.

There's a Merc estate on sale in here for a tad under a grand, sell the bling, scrape together whatever else you need and bob's your uncle. Bike and Car.

I feel your pain - I'm having to sell my beloved Defender 110 this month to get a boring motorway cruiser owing to a move at work...

you obviously dont like bikes that much if you are giving it up that easaly :comfort surely if you need a 4 wheeler to do your job then its a tool of your job and should be supplied by your employer :nenau (unless offcourse they like to avoid company cars and have made arangement in your wage for using your own vehicle)
enjoy your tin box :pullface

Rent a fancy car for the day and claim back from expenses :D

thanks for the advice from everyone :comfort

I have started selling the bling and I will go ahead with the sale of the bike, get a half decent car but what I will also do is hopefully get a BMW 450X so I can still enjoy riding but get more into the off road stuff which I didn't dare do on such a well kept bike. I love my 800 but the job must come first. Who knows, in a years time after a good bonus, I could be back on a GS just for fun at the weekends.

The bike will be listed on sunday, so if there is anyone looking for a great bike, well looked after, here's your chance (£6500)

(I know everytime I see a GS on the road and I'm behind the wheel I will feel a sad pull on my heart strings:tears:tears:tears)
