Shhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

It's five in the morning. Even the dog's still asleep..

And it's a beautiful Sunday morning. I'm off to marshal at a pay and practice event. The alarm was set for six, but I just had to get up earlier. Even with the curtains closed you just know it was stunning outside.

The chickens tap tap tap at their window as I tinker outside getting the bike out.

I let them out and push the bike onto the road so I don't piss the neighbours off ...

It's already gorgeously warm, and the mist hangs over the meadows whilst the sheep wake from their slumber.

How could you take main roads on a morning like this? I just can't bring myself to take the most direct route, so I wind my way down the rural B roads.

Anyone who plays off road in Kent knows the Pilgrims way, it's a very well trodden byway, so rather than take the road I bimble along through the fields of rape.

There's only so much of the by-way I can do, and eventually spit myself out onto the main road.

Three sports bikes pass me going the other way at three figures. At least they've got the nouce to get up early for their play - they'll probably be back home whilst most people are still in their jim-jams. Good for them!

I eventually get to the venue and help the blokes finish off marking the routes.

It's really warming up now, last time I was here it absolutely poured down but there was more grip then than there is now! It's bone dry, dusty and the main perimiter roads are a bed of marbles.

After a quick coaching session with a guy on a V-strom I can have a play on the WR. It's the first time I've been out on it since buying it from Halfpint on here. And it seems to go alright!

By late morning it's bloody boiling, it's approaching 29 degrees and we're all dripping.

We stop in the shade and watch the event recovery truck errrrrrrr, practicing his off road skills!!

We spend the day having a play, checking everybody's ok, drinking water and having more of a play in the one or two remaining big puddles!

By late afternoon, the heat had driven everybody home. We pack up ourselves and I reverse my morning journey. It's a bimble, I don't want to chew up my tyres on the tarmac and I'm so bolloxed with the heat that it's a pleasure to just chug along.

As hot and tired as I am, I just can't resist the call from mother earth, so just as it was first thing this morning, the sun is still behind me and I abandon the tarmac and take to the by-way again.

It's half past six, I've been on the bike for thirteen hours :blast, my legs are aching, my arse is numb, and I'm just gagging for a beer!

I think of Johny Boxer and the lovely road to Rogart as I wind my way home on the last few miles!

Nice one Giles.:thumb I kept an eye out for you over there, as we walked over. We saw a guy on a KTM come off quite badly on one of the hills.:blast He had to be driven back to the main area in one of the Land Rovers as he was in a fair bit of pain. Do you know if he was OK?

:thumb As far as I know no body really hurt themselves. I think the KTM guy bashed his knee but was Ok after a bit. (As far as I know..).

The hilly section was pretty difficult on the big bikes - very loose and difficult to get traction on some of the inclines ... :D

wr

give it a good trashing and hold on . the bike should be treated with love and a tender hand. :beerjug:
