ITS HERE S1000XR

I think that base Multistrada is properly equipped, so I would be happy with that spec for 13k£. I can't find anywhere if new multistrada comes with quick shifter or not? I think I heard about it on one of the launch videos but can't find this information anymore.

No quickshifter, it can be retro fitted as there's enough room in the linkage fir a translogic shifter .

I noticed that the Multi has a sticker on, to say that's a pre production bike, so why didn't BMW do the same? It's obvious that is a pre production model, so I wouldn't take too much notice of the imperfections, just yet.

They need to up the ante if they're going to steal sales from Ducati. I'll see what it's like tomorrow, and what Steve says. But, for the time being, I have no interest in one, as I have the perfect combo of bikes, for me.;)

I'd appreciate it Rich if you can ask steve bellars, (tall chap with a bald head) saves me firing an email to Andy Cook at BMW.

I went to the show yesterday, hoping to choose a new bike for next year. Having seen the new BMW S1000xr and the new multistrada in the press I went along hoping one of these bikes would really grab me and convince me to place an order early next year.
Having sat on both, the BMW felt a better fit, I didn't like the riding position of the Ducati. I was also put off the MS by the sight of two large lazzy bands going round in the cutaway engine, and the cost of the servicing. The BMW was let down by the crappy front mudguard, and the radiator and oil cooler being ideally placed to get stones and shit hitting them.
I then went to the KTM stand and had a look at the 1190 and 1050 Adventure, now both of these I took to straight away, to me they felt like they would be more comfortable, I just seemed to fit better on both these bikes. I'll have to get some decently long test rides on all of these four bikes and hope one of them suitably impresses me. The problem I have is justifying whether any of them are going to be worth the extra several thousand pounds to replace my Stelvio. (nowt wrong with it, just after nearly six years of ownership I'm fancying a change)

Rich,

Please ask them about quality of black plastic bits, as they look awful and will not last long without scratches. I'm talking about front near headlamps, beak, side of tank and the one on the tank. I found the picture in one of magazines today that is showing kind of meshed/grilled plastics on the side of the tank, but the one I saw @NEC was not having any of these. I'll try to find the pic of it to compare with the ones I took.

Yup agreed it's not in production yet so has to be a pre-production model, plus even production models take a right kicking from Joe Public when on display at shows like this, why it's going to take 7 months to get the bike to the showroom is odd given that the bike is what appears to be an adapted production model

Is it?

BMW Staff on stand have said, it's the one

That Ducati looks a cut above for sure

See my comments above, agreed regarding the Ducati M/S pre production or not it looks the dog's :thumby:

After a conversation with a BMW dealer this morning and voicing my disappoint. he made some calls to higher up the food chain, and it appears the bike is very much a pre production bike.
If so it's a shame this wasn't made known to show staff. First impressions always count.
I hope they change the screen pivot pins ( same ones as GS WC)
I did like the 1200R but still glad I bought the last of the old model.

no excuse really, the pre-production show bikes shouldn't have paint and finish imperfections, they should be better (the H2 was stunningly finnished) with the huge budgets BMW have to play with, i noticed among others looking round it yesterday that it was poor quality in its finish and trying way too hard to copy the multi in its design.. Bm's used to have a quirky coolness in their design:D

I've just got off the phone to my local dealer, and they have confirmed that these are the same XR's that have been to the other shows, so are pre production models.

I'm not surprised that they look shite, as they will have taken a battering, with all the lardy old farts, and 'orrible kids crawling all over them.:D

Why BMW didn't think to inform their staff, or even put a sticker on each bike (like Ducati have), to make people aware these are pre production bikes is just plain stupid.:blast That will have been a costly mistake.:rob

The bikes do not look like they have taken a battering, its the quality of materials used that make this particular bike look shite, So does that mean the final bike will not have the exact plastics ! And the clutch lever that looks as tho its come off a DRz.

well said Dave. Problem is material used not its condition on these bikes.

Did you buy that line?

BMW KoolAid is great:D

No KoolAid taken, as it makes no odds to me. But it's quite obvious really, with over 7 months to go, before the bikes launch. If this is the final draft, do you not think that BMW would launch it now, and start making money as soon as they can?:nenau

On a pre production bike, some of the materials aren't the final ones that will be used. They have obviously rushed these bikes to the shows, without thinking about the knock on effect. Silly really.

If you google pictures of the Xr you can see some plastics, not all have a graining effect to them, tis crazy the way they have shown these bikes, i was told stock will be limited nxt yr due to sharing production, dealers will get a limited no of bikes per there quota as the factory are building several new models on the same production line, so models will be done in batches.

I think dealers will struggle to meet the demands of servicing nxt yr ie will be weeks and not a week to get a service, must be good news for dealers bringing in extra workload from servicing and warranty issues.

Good example of different plastics finish here:

They've certainly rushed these bikes, without too much thought, it would seem.

Some dealers down here are currently quoting 2-3 weeks for service work, so there's more business than they can deal with at the moment. And it's nearly December!

More BMW dealers will be appearing, if they keep making/ selling bikes at this rate.

I'm not sure I like where they are going.:rob

I also found that welding of subframe support rods not very aesthetic...they could do much nicer welds if they keep them exposed....

The only plastics that seem different are the plastics around the knee area, this would make sense as to why they use the heavy grain plastics to prevent marking, the rest looks the same, if you want to see proper welding have a browse at the mutley's, its proper .

I recon rich will drill steve bellars tomorrow on these issues, let us no what you find out fella.
